I've got a cousin who is a paranoid schizophrenic. With medication, his delusions are completely controlled and he lives on his own and has a job and takes care of himself. Even without medication, he doesn't have violent delusions or behavior. His delusions used to lead him to do shit like burying things in the yard so no one could find it, then digging it up because a helicopter watched him hide it.

He's never been involuntarily committed, never shown himself to be a danger to himself or to anyone else, and is therefore not prohibited by law from owning firearms. I don't think he owns any, but it wouldn't be illegal if he did.

I would still argue that having a debilitating mental illness or psychosis does not correlate with being a danger to others even when such persons have access to a weapon.

For everyone else it's okay, but you have convinced me that you should not be allowed anything more dangerous than a soft-boiled egg. Peeled, of course.

My neighbour has many guns and decades of military training. He also has a wife with no such training (they are newlyweds). I don't mind either of them handling their weapons next door. I am very happy that you are forbidden owning or possessing guns. It's the right decision for a responsible community.
