Fantastic a mugging turns into a shoot out and thats considered a success!!

Better than an unsolved homicide with a 15-year old murderer running around loose. What I don't understand is simply charging the perp with aggravated assault instead of attempted murder. Any time a perp fires a weapon at a victim should be at a minimum attempted first degree murder.

Didn't deter the criminal nor stop the victim getting shot though.

Only because of bad tactical planning on the victim's part. If he'd been properly aware, he'd have taken action immediately when the perp tried to rob him (or preferably long before) by, for example, saying "Okay, don't hurt me, let me get my wallet" and producing his handgun instead. This gives him a significant advantage in the potentially ensuing gunfight.

But the point is that the fact that he had a handgun, and used it to good effect despite being wounded, kept the perp from shooting him again, and he wounded the perp, which means he's going to prison for a long time and won't be a danger to others. Pity he didn't get a better shot at the perp and drill him center-mass, but I forgive him for his marksmanship deficit since he'd just been shot in the stomach, which in most cases would make someone entirely unable to draw and fire.

I compliment him on his focus and determination and his under-stress marksmanship abilities. Two hits when even most cops would be luck to get one.

Any actual rational commentary on the probity of the actual story, or are you just ignorantly dismissing the value of the story and the lesson because you don't like the organization who (unlike many others) has the courage to publish examples of citizens lawfully using their firearms to defend themselves?

Two people wounded in a gun fight. No other witnesses mentioned. There is every reason to doubt BOTH versions, till better evidence shows up. If the two have different versions, there is no reason to favour one over the other.

Why? There is no mention of independent witnesses. And it's FOX doing the reporting. I see no reason to believe or disbelieve any of it.

I don't believe either version when two people have shot each other. I EXPECT people to lie in those circumstances.
Who is lying and who's telling the truth you sort out by evidence, not by website reporting.
Presumably the reporter wasn't there at the scene, yet he gives no account of how he knows what happened.
