What would you think of a return of Silver money?

It's not quite as good as all that. It's too small again, if nothing else. But the things he's talking about are all the obvious stuff that Congress politically is likely to have the will to do. There is more he can do in the Executive branch as well, and many economists making suggestions. Many of the suggestions can be used together. We'll have to see what happens. I have rather the impression he's spent the last three years cleaning up the mess made by Chimpy the Smirk, and now he's ready to get down to it and rassle with the Republicans. His timing looks fair, and maybe even good.

I don't have high expectations at this point, though it's pretty clear he intended to pivot, that he has, and that he has at least the initiative if not the tactical advantage. We'll see. The Republicans are the Flacks; they often have the advantage in messaging. On the other hand, he didn't get to be President by not knowing politics, and this one looks pretty well calculated to stymie their usual delay-deny-whine-game the system bullshit.

The first issue of Australia's 50 cent coins was an amalgam, 25% of which was silver. Shortly after the issue the price of silver went up. And up and up. When the value of silver exceeded the face value of the coin by a worthwhile margin, 50 cent pieces suddenly became as rare as hens' teeth. People melted them down, separated the silver portion and made a nice little profit.
