He was governor of California for eight years. At the time, California was economically approximately the 5th largest nation on Earth.

In my view, not much.

Obama hasn't been attacked, not in the way George W. Bush was - incessantly and constantly. Obama has had his citizenship questioned - so what? So did John McCain. And, if John McCain was President there would be an afterbirther movement regarding his birth in the Panama Canal Zone.

Please - the media protect the hell out of Obama, and there is almost no vetting. If GWBush refused to do something as simple as release a stupid birth certificate or release his college transcripts, you'd be singing the opposite tune.

Scurrilous lies.

Even Ron Reagan, Jr. didn't assert that his dad's Alzheimers had started to "kick in." All he wrote in his book was that given what we NOW KNOW about the long lead up to Alzeimers, there were signs. That is a far cry from it "kicking in."

Just ask yourself who you'd blame in a similar circumstance if McCain was President.

Why doesn't Obama and the Democratic Congress in Washington bear some responsibility? I wouldn't blame them for it exclusively, and Bush and the Republicans are at least equally to blame. But, there is this tendency among Democrat supporters to view Democrats as sort of bystanders, not having anything really to do with the actual events.

Gotcha. You'll be at the White House picketing Obama's Libyan campaign, and then over to the French embassy to picket the French war in the Ivory Coast, then ay?

I remember listening to Regan speak, and he always sounded like he was reading a script and putting on his best show for the role he got. I am almost certain that he went to bed asking his wife "Am I really the president of the United States hun?" Yes, you are dear, the best acting role you got so far!

It didn't take the last two years for California to go broke and to beg to be able to claim bankruptcy. It took probably the 8 years of "governator's" leadership.

here's a few quotes from Regan

A tree's a tree. How many more do you need to look at?
Ronald Reagan
(well ain't that deep)

Above all, we must realize that no arsenal, or no weapon in the arsenals of the world, is so formidable as the will and moral courage of free men and women. It is a weapon our adversaries in today's world do not have.
Ronald Reagan
(I feel all warm inside and so patriotic"

All great change in America begins at the dinner table.
Ronald Reagan
(at McDonalds dinner table)

All the waste in a year from a nuclear power plant can be stored under a desk.
Ronald Reagan
(ha ha ha)

Approximately 80% of our air pollution stems from hydrocarbons released by vegetation, so let's not go overboard in setting and enforcing tough emission standards from man-made sources.
Ronald Reagan

(ha ha ha/again)

But there are advantages to being elected President. The day after I was elected, I had my high school grades classified Top Secret.
Ronald Reagan

Democracy is worth dying for, because it's the most deeply honorable form of government ever devised by man.
Ronald Reagan
(Oh, holy night....)

Don't be afraid to see what you see.
Ronald Reagan
(Ok, but what do youuu see?)

Entrepreneurs and their small enterprises are responsible for almost all the economic growth in the United States.
Ronald Reagan
(Absolutely, and then we train the employees to speak English, not Indian)

Freedom prospers when religion is vibrant and the rule of law under God is acknowledged.
Ronald Reagan
(YeS! Religion is what we desperately need.)

Going to college offered me the chance to play football for four more years.
Ronald Reagan

Government always finds a need for whatever money it gets.
Ronald Reagan
(What else is new)

Government exists to protect us from each other. Where government has gone beyond its limits is in deciding to protect us from ourselves.
Ronald Reagan
(Ok, what do you mean by that?)

I gotta admit Bush is the winner in reading the scripts department. He messed that up too. He always had that look on his face like "what? who? did he say sometin? oh, is it my turn to talk?" :ask: :ask:

Taken out of context, of course. The sentence immediately prior to that referred to "hundreds of thousands of acres" of redwood trees, and the issue was how to strike the balance between conservation and resource needs. It's of course used to portray Reagan as dumb. But, that's typical of liberals - if you're not with them, you're either with them, or dumb or evil. Eisenhower was painted as stupid, Nixon was never considered stupid but he was evil incarnate, Ford was a bumbling boob, Reagan was dumb as a stone, GHWBush was bumbling, out of touch and slow, and GW was of course the "dumbest President in history." After a while this "Republicans are stupid" line becomes quite tiresome - there won't ever be a Republican who is considered smart by the American left (unless he is Nixonian evil).

It's a shorthand, lazy way to oppose someone. It let's you just say "he's stupid," and not actually examine the issues.

Something wrong with inspiring words? Or, is it the fact that he's lauding moral courage and freedom?
kiki5711 wrote:

As I noted - it's either he's stupid, or he's evil. Now, a perfectly reasonable statement of the "all politics is local" bent, and it has to mean that what he's talking about is people eating fast food at McDonalds.

kiki5711 wrote:

The thrust of this comment is not incorrect. What he was saying was that if the spent fuel from a nuclear power plant were reprocessed (i.e., if the reusable portions were separated out from the unsalvageable trash), you'd conceivably end up with just a few cubic feet of waste. This would indeed fit under a desk. Of course, the spent fuel isn't reprocessed because that procedure creates un-needed Plutonium. But, even so, a year's worth of waste from 1,000 megawatt nuclear power plat probably takes up about 150 cubic feet, more or less.

Incidentally, many environmentalists have come around to nuclear power. It is now considered a very green technology.

The early 80s were about 3 decades ago, and what we know about the effects of human-sourced emissions has increased a bit. Remember, in the early 80s, we were still getting disaster theories about impending ice ages, and whatnot.
kiki5711 wrote:

Have you verified whether he actually made his high school grades top secret? Or, could this be a - gasp - joke...

What do you see? Most of these that you've listed are only funny if you start with a preconceived notion that Reagan was an idiot.
