How did Zep get their name and who suggested it?
How did Zep get their name and who suggested it?
It's a piece of piss to be cowiz, but it's not cowiz to be a piece of piss. Or something like that.

Re: How Did Led Zeppelin Get Their Name (No Googling)
When discussing a name for their band, "The New Yardbirds" was suggested. The reply was that that name would go over like a lead zeppelin.
Or so the story goes according to Alice Cooper.

I heard it was Keith Moon who made that remark about it going over like a lead zeppelin (i.e. a big lead balloon).

That's the version I remember, though I was probably stoned at the time. They dropped the "a" from lead, to make sure it would be pronounced properly (not "leed").

BTW-- watched their 1973 Madison Square Garden Concert on TV the other day. I turned to J and said, "Wow-- they all look exactly like rock stars."
J:" Yeah, there's a reason for that. They sort of established what we think rock stars look like."
Anyway, Robert Plant used to be HOT! Gotta love the male camel toe.

They were at an aquarium. Somebody cried out, "Oh, the huge manatee!" The rest is history.

He's right! They sort of established what rock should be like, too, though not many did it as well as they did.hadespussercats wrote:That's the story my honey told me.Geoff wrote:One of my favourite ever groups!Ian wrote:I heard it was Keith Moon who made that remark about it going over like a lead zeppelin (i.e. a big lead balloon).

Saw them live twice back in the 70's - both gigs are still in my top 5 of live acts ever seen (Meatloaf, Moody Blues and Pink Floyd take the other three spots)
Pervert!

I love Led Zeppelin. They have been a top favorite of mine since Junior High. I listen to them still.
As a matter of fact, I'm going to put on I followed by II right now.

IV is my favourite - especially "Battle of Evermore", closely followed by II.Gallstones wrote:I love Led Zeppelin. They have been a top favorite of mine since Junior High. I listen to them still.
