Doesn't matter. There is still a world of difference between reasonable places like the UK, Canada, Netherlands, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, France, Germany, and the evil no-good cotton-pickin' United Snakes of 'Merka, and two bit, piece of crap totalitarian dictatorships like in Cuba, Iran, Syria, and North Korea. Even though we are all controlled by "the corporations" who steal our souls and rape our women, we are still worlds away better than the regimes you champion.
Re: Will Obama Be a One Term President?
Remember, Eisenhower in the 1950's said the military/Industrial complex would be runnning things, and he was a Republican. And he said it with concern. There is a reason america is at a perpetual state of war.
That said, Obama has done more to bring social progress to this country than perhaps any other president in history except maybe Lincoln, a republican (where have all these good repubs gone?). Health care, gay rights, installing 2 liberal supreme court justices, saving the economy, etc,.
Let me put it bluntly: Obama good; right wing bad.

Sorry, never sure which totalitarian regime you laud. So, are you saying that the US is freer than Syria and Iran? A nicer place to live? Better economic system? Better political system?sandinista wrote:wll, coit, at least you finally agree. Yah...I "champion" Iran and Syria, keep pulling shit out of your ass.
Is there one country in the world against which you will credit the US as doing any good things better?
I've never once heard you defend the US on any point. I've never head you suggest it was right on anything. I've never heard you suggest that any other country had done something wrong in relation to the US. I wonder - is there any instance when you would credit the US favorably, ever?

I don't "laud" any totalitarian state...including the US. Isn't it just like a conservative american to think if one criticizes the US they must love North Korea. I don't have any issue with you criticizing the US. I have an issue with you calling it "totalitarian" when it isn't, and the fact that you will never credit the US for anything positive, ever. That's a big difference.sandinista wrote:I don't "laud" any totalitarian state...including the US. I don't think you "must" be for North Korea - it's just that you equate the US with places like Cuba and North Korea - unless you're going to suggest that you don't - am I wrong? Will you credit the US with anything at all? Is there any qualitative difference between the US and Cuba? The US and North Korea?

Of course you take issue with anyone criticizing the US, as soon as anyone does you just start complaining about Cuba or Venezuela or North Korea or Syria for some reason, like a conditioned response or something. What do you mean "equate"? In what sense? Like the US has murdered millions of people through bombing raids and Cuba hasn't?Coito ergo sum wrote:I don't have any issue with you criticizing the US. Actually, I don't. I criticize the US all the time, so much so that many have criticized me for criticizing it.sandinista wrote: Of course you take issue with anyone criticizing the US, as soon as anyone does you just start complaining about Cuba or Venezuela or North Korea or Syria for some reason, like a conditioned response or something. I only talk about Cuba and Venezuela, etc., on the relevant threads, or when someone else brings it up.
Just answer the question - in whatever sense you can imagine, is there any point on which you will credit the US as having done something better than Cuba or North Korea or Iran or Syria? Don't evade the question -- is there some way, any way, that the US is superior to those countries?
I have no problem saying, for example, that Great Britain is far superior to North Korea and Cuba in almost every way. Their government is much freer and fairer - their economic system is much freer and fairer - they respect human rights much more - they imprison political prisoners much less - they treat their citizens much better, and I can go on and on.
You've found a way to suggest that Cuba is superior to the US. Can you achieve the reverse?

1. are you saying that the US is freer than Syria and Iran? A nicer place to live? Better economic system? Better political system? yes? no? They're about the same?
2. Is there one country in the world against which you will credit the US as doing anything better? Anything good or beneficial, that is...
3. I've never once heard you defend the US on any point. I've never head you suggest it was right on anything.
You are, of course, able to make judgments in favor of other countries. You have said Cuba has a better medical system, for example. So, why can't you say whether there is anything the US does better than Cuba?
These aren't nonsense questions. Maybe your answer is no on all counts - there is nothing that that US does, nothing about the US, that is better than Cuba, North Korea, Syria or Iran. That does appear to be your view, since you refuse to say otherwise.
