I'm mad keen on fusion myself. But I have a sneaking suspicion that if I talked to the people doing the research, I would come away a lot less optimistic than I am now. Otherwise there would be a lot more effort going into it.

Specifically, you want "cold", table-top fusion. The kind that would go in a basement and supply an entire household, or drive a vehicle (although the vehicle could be charged from the home system routinely.)

Light Sabers

I've never understood the practicality of light sabers. If you had the technology to produce beams of light capable of cutting through anything, you'd think you would have some kind of gun or projectile.

It always seemed silly that Star Wars fighters were thousands of years in the future and still swinging at each other like medieval knights.
