There's a chance my job could disappear due to funding cuts. It's all up in the air at the moment though.

I know for a fact that the money you contributed to your pension will not go anywhere near meeting the cost of your pension (if you live as long as average). The balance has / will come from HMG. The fact that HMG made some really crap deals is not your personal concern, and I don't criticise you or anyone else for taking advatage of ignorance and stupidity (hey, it's businessRum wrote:I will resist telling you to stick it where the sun doesn't shine. I worked for 35 years and I draw a pension now based on the savings *I* made during those years. Its a good deal, based on my long term commitment, their need to keep expertise in the system and my desire to slow down but not cease work. A good deal all round I would suggest.
Unfortunately central government finances seemed to have fucked things up.

Santa, even if you do have valid or correct points, maybe it's a 'time and a place' issue. Maybe when someone gets bad news they need just 24 hours before someone starts giving them the full economic reality check? Jus' sayin....

Does your arse do any other tricks, besides talking? The alternative to Rum working half hours (for half pay) alongside claiming his pension is that he does no work at all but still claims that pension. How is he being any kind of a drain by doing work that is useful for the going rate for the hours he works?Santa_Claus wrote:I know for a fact that the money you contributed to your pension will not go anywhere near meeting the cost of your pension (if you live as long as average). And no, it wasn't all the fault of "the bankers" - kinda like blaming the SS for Hitler or WWII, played an important part - but not the cause.
At the end of the day (about lunchtime in your case) you are still getting full time cash (more or less) for a part time job. And that cash has to come from somewhere. and it ain't from you. HMG(however represented - Council / Pension Fund) would have been better off financially overall by keeping you on full time salary as they would not have to employ someone else to do half your job.......the reason you got the deal is simply because it's a way of 1 arm of govt moving costs onto another, same as large private sector firms do. Short term Accounting sense, long term / big picture nonsense.

The Bankers were one of the enablers, but not the underlying cause. Life is too short to explain, as those who haven't grasped the basics this far into the economic restructuring of the UK (it's not a recession or a depression - both meaningless terms) have clearly chosen ignorance. and nothing wrong with that - because fook all you can do about it anywayHow about you attack the bankers who got us in this shit in the first place
I may (or may not) agree with you that the Council does stuff that people need. But hard truth is ain't the money to go on paying for a wish list of nice things (leaving aside whether (?!!) done efficiently). Unless you have the cash spare? I don't.instead of teaching assistants who are loosing their jobs at our local school. Meals on wheels are being cut, support for pensioners and the poor are being hit in York. Like Rum our council is cutting 600 jobs, jobs that make life bearable for a lot of folk.

I thought Rum had been banging on about the "surprise" cuts for quite a while. Can't remember exactly who he was blaming, but pretty sure it was "someone else"stripes4 wrote:Santa, even if you do have valid or correct points, maybe it's a 'time and a place' issue.
