with 4 players and 1 scum player, each town player has to decide who is most scummy among 3 other players. And the scum only has to look less scummy than one of them.Magicziggy wrote:That wiki page does not really explain why we should do it for this game.
It seems to me to prevent your lynch. The longer you can survive, the greater your chances of winning.
I don't buy into it that our chances of winning are low.
There's 4-1. If Twinkie can block, we'll be laughing.
At 3-1, we should take our chance to win the game.
It's flawed logic as far as I can see, but I am open to be convinced.
When you vote nolynch in that situation you get 2 new pieces of info. 1) Who the scum chose to kill on the next night. 2) Who the scum chose not to kill. And equally important, the town players have 2 choices the next day, and the scum player has fewer players to make a case that they are more scummy.
The downside is that usually the more experienced town players get taken out, which can hurt town.
I *think* it will help town in this situation. I've seen nolynch used 3 times in other games. In two cases, town won. In one case scum won. I think the primary difference when scum won was the experience level of the 2 town players, and the fact that one of them had appeared almost scummy enough to lynch during the latter half of the game. Even so, it was very clear to onlookers which of the players was trying to avoid a lynch and which was trying to find the last scum. It's just not something relatively inexperienced players knew to key in on.
