Gawdzilla, could you please start a thread called Muster rolls with a link to the roll so we can find it? Thanks I can't remember where you put it, lol!
I just bumped it up to Global so you should find it easier in the future.
Thanks!!

Wasn't there a 'rohm'?

He ain't on the list.
What do we want?
Gradual change!
When do we want it?
In due course!

Well I'm here, not that I got a mention after the first few pages!! My ego is slowly recovering. What has happened to the RDF science writing comp then?

Btw, I actually thoroughly support RD's sentiments. Christs sake, it's not a fucken charity he's running. Get over it and go somewhere else (like we all have)

edit: i guess it IS a charity. But the forum isn't, at least not FOR us.
Hey mkpr, glad you could make it. We're trying to set up the science writing competition here.

And I think perhaps you've missed out on the details of what actually happened on RDF due to the selective editing of Josh and old Chalkers over there, who have made it look like they announced a change in forum structure which was followed by :mob:

You'll find this story explained in much more detail elsewhere, but the summary is: They announced a change in forum structure, some were upset, some were confused and some were apathetic (and some, even now, are quite excited about the prospect). Then they started deleting members (including their entire positing history) for simply disagreeing with them. This included Mazille, CJ and DarwinsBulldog. About an hour after their initial announcement, they had DELETED 6 members and over 30,000 posts. Then they froze the forum to stop anyone and limited PM capability to stop people congregating elsewhere.

Basically, they acted like complete jackasses and spat on those most loyal to their cause, then edited all the details of the event to make it look like all the members went crazy because the forum was changing... :nono:

Doesn't show by that name in the Members list. You can search for a specific name if you're wondering whether they're here or not. Faster than paging through the list.

Cheers for the explanation Samsa. I read some of the backstory, but still I don't have a great deal of sympathy. Ultimately all forums are dictatorships, not democracies. People need to keep in mind that they are there at the pleasure of the owners/admins. If I were RD I would have expressed similar exasperation at the behaviour of many members. The new forum may well be less voluminous, but it might be more interesting than wading through pages of boring personal opinions ( like mine). I should shut up now! Bad intro to rationalia!!!!

Peter Harrison wrote here
In 2008, this is what Dawkins himself had to say about our community:

“It is a community, and that is a valuable part of it. Many of our forum threads have an atmosphere of friends going out for a drink and chatting. I think that is valuable, and I don’t think we should insist on sticking to serious topics. That would be a good way to stifle the sense of community, and that would be a real shame.”
Its very rude when a publican comes over and tells you not to discuss (what ever it is you want to discuss) in HIS pub ... even though you are paying to drink HIS beer ...

Sure the forum was 'free' but a lot of us supported the publican's foundation and supported him personally by buying and promoting his work.

Fletch: Thank you. Thank you very much. Thank you. Thank you. Amen. What? Other sins? Uh, I parked in a handicap spot on my way up here. Actually, on a handicap person. I told him I'd be back in five minutes, so that's not such a big deal.

can I ask WTF will be achieved by this?
Yes you can ... and yes you did.

Nah, he knows. He's not very interested in further discussion, apparently: he's work on a 'video against evolution'. Poor youtube.

Whatever will we do!? No atheist will be able to stand up to such an onslaught. I can feel my atheism leaving me as we speak...

Are Newolder and susu.exp here yet? Discussions are more interesting with the participation of people who actually know something about science (not saying that there aren't plenty of them here already). The two guys I mentioned are people whose posts I would accept as fact, without giving it a second thought.
