Looks like I posted my message to the RDF staff in the wrong place, so, in order to avoid repetition, I'll post a link to it here. I hope all former staff to RDF know how much many of us appreciated them. You're why it became what it was. Thank you all!

In view of the fact that PMs on that forum seem to be down to 2 per hour, and I have no need to PM anyone, I can send a few if someone has a pressing need.
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

Check the 'who's missing' thread. That seems to be the latest info on who hasn't made it yet. ADParker and Newolder should definitely be informed, if they haven't already.

Thanks guys for the kind wishes. It wasn't just the staff that made the forum - it was the entire collection of brilliant minds, funny people, the educated and uneducated, nice and not so nice people and downright batshit crazy numbskulls. Even the loonies like Robert Byers and Bodhitharta made it an enjoyable place to be in. And I learned tons during my time there about a whole bunch of things and was entertained and amused along the way as well. I made many good friends, a couple of dozen of whom I'm looking forward to meeting in 2 weeks in Mlebourne.

The staff put a lot of time and effort into running the place and approached their duties with diligence and impartiality. Sometimes the Mod discussions behind the scenes were spirited, even confrontational, but at the end of the day, we worked together to do the best we could allow people to express their opinions and themselves within a fair interpretation of the rules. We occasionally may have got it wrong, but most of the time amends were quickly made and for the most part, the decisions made about moderation were considered and impartial and involved multiple moderator input. They were an excellent bunch of people to work with and didn't deserve the thorough shafting they got from Josh & Andrew, nor the disinformation that Josh has posted since then.

I tip my hat to you guys.

And to Ratz, thank you for embracing us so warmly after the great RDF meltdown. We're amongst friends again.

Just being honest! Apart from a wee bit of shenanigans of a few people being overly lax in the peer review of a few finds, the science of climate change is very solid. The evidence is much, much better than cigarette links to cancer, emphysema etc. And yet people stop smoking, because they know they are taking a grave risk. Not so climate change where some piddle-shit piece of anomalous data is said by the deluded god-botherers to invalidate the whole science. This means our future is in the hands of people like Robert Byers, and unfortunately those people vote. And big business does not want its much-billion dollar profits to drop by one cents, even if it is to save their greedy fat asses.

IF we can get businesses to look very long term [even a week into the future], then they might realize the huge profits that can be made from renewables. A deeper economy is more stable, so long as we can get fuck wits in board rooms to realise that there is more than one way to make a buck besides digging shit out of the ground.
It WILL be over our dead bodies, Gallstones. We will be killed by our moronic or greedy brothers.

Anyway, did I do any of this? No, I kept discipline didn't I??? [Apart from banning a moronic troll last night that is!] :funny: :funny:

Durro,

If you haven't already, do you plan on posting your thread concerning your experiences in Saudi Arabia? It's an enjoyable read and I'd hate to see that disappear!

Even though DarwinsBulldog may not have gone through the correct procedure when deciding to ban Andrew as a Troll, I feel it was justified and he would have received a consensus if the available mods had been polled

But good post Durro, I agree with it all

Nahhhhh. Fuck 'em. It's their loss, not mine.

But I am writing a book about it and The Treatment of Women in Saudi thread comprised material for but one chapter of a 23 chapter, 350 page book. Well, draft manuscript really - we can't label it a book yet. It's in the hands of a literary agent and she's supposed to get back to me with a yes or no by the end of this week.

If it gets published, people will be able to read a far better version of that thread's materials and 22 chapters of bonus material. There's a synopsis of the chapters here on rationalia at :-

http://www.rationalia.com/forum/viewtop ... 25#p271091

If it doesn't get published, I'll happily e-mail copies to people upon request.

Hello all I have come here after seeing this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDSaDVYvg_c

Well this is going to make the Melbourne conference even more interesting. Is there any plan for ex RDFers to meet for a beer ? I will be there.

Many thanks to the mods (and rockers) over the years.
