It's a collage, not a real picture. The keyboard is way too big for a human to use easily. And tractor feed paper was fourteen inches wide.

Harumph. Never really took a critical look at it. Now that I do, the shadows are wrong around the TV/monitor, too.

Tehee. Snopes' report on that "home computer" here.

The picture is actually an entry submitted to a Fark.com image modification competition, taken from an original photo of a submarine maneuvering room console found on the U.S. Navy web site, converted to grayscale, and modified to replace a modern display panel and TV screen with pictures of a decades-old teletype/printer and television (as well as to add the gray-suited man to the left-hand side of the photo)

Probably controlled the diving planes. You're only getting a small part of the control room there.

If you want to see what a USN control room doesn't look like, watch "Hunt for Red October." The Navy cooperated in that film on the condition that they could make changes as "appropriate" to the interior shots of the subs. The set designers said they knew when they got something right because the sewer pipe sailors would step in and ask that it be changed. :twisted:
