Love Brazil. Have you ever seen Jaberwocky? I quite like that. My favorite Gilliam films is prolly The Adventures of Baron Munchausen. And 12 Monkeys.

Anyway, since I liked The Fantastic Mr. Fox so much, I bought Rushmore, and just watched it. I thought it was great

Also just watched Funny People. Worth the price just to see Sarah Silverman's vagina :hehe:
People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.

But those letters are not silent.

They're just waiting their turn.

Oh. Also just watched The Abyss, cuz I wanted to check out another James Cameron film, having seen Avatar recently. It should've been called The Abysmal. My god it was fucking horrible

I watched Aliens the other night. It was a directors cut although there is only one bit I could make out added but its a long time since I've seen it. Still a good movie. And at least the directors cut of this wasn't as bad as the directors cut of Terminator 2. Its like Those bits were taken out by the editor for a good reason James you should've listened to him.

Casablanca is the best film evah! It just is. Humph is the best actor evah - for the same reason.

Mind you, Brazil is pretty damn hot too.

Went to see Up in the air tonight, not too bad, good performance from Clooney.

The world is a thing of utter inordinate complexity and richness and strangeness that is absolutely awesome. I mean the idea that such complexity can arise not only out of such simplicity, but probably absolutely out of nothing, is the most fabulous extraordinary idea. And once you get some kind of inkling of how that might have happened, it's just wonderful. And . . . the opportunity to spend 70 or 80 years of your life in such a universe is time well spent as far as I am concerned.

Hmph. I thought THE ABYSS was pretty good. Love Ed Harris -- a damn good actor. Tell us though, did you watch the theatrical or director's cut version?

ALIENS is one of my favorite sci-fi actioners of all time. I've seen both the Theatrical and Director's cuts quite a few times. From off the top of my head here are the additions in the Director's cut:

- Ripley is relaxing on a "park bench" watching a holographic scene, then switches it off. Burke shows up with info on her daughter.

- The inquisition scene is a little longer (by seconds).

- An entire sequence at Hadley's Hope (the colony on LV-426). The fat dude with the coffee walking through the command center (which is bustling with activity), talks with another dude about a "mom n' pop crew" that found something, then complains about the kids playing around on that sublevel. Then it cuts to Newt's family finding the alien "space jockey" derelict spaceship. Dad comes back with face hugger on his face, etc.

- Hudson brags about all the weapons they brought with them on the mission ("My squad of ultimate badasses will protect you... we got... knives, sharp sticks...")

- All the stuff with the automatic sentry cannons -- totally new.

- A few more shots of Hudson's maniacal bravado before he buys the farm.

- Quick little scene of Corporal "Duane" Hicks and "Ellen" Ripley exchanging their names before she runs off to find Newt at the end. ("Don't be gone long, Ellen...")

I think that's about it. Like you, I prefer the tighter theatrical cuts to movies. Rarely does a "Director's Cut" really improve upon a picture. At best it's usually a draw, like the ALIENS Dir. Cut. Sometimes they improve the flick, like the KINGDOM OF HEAVEN dir. cut. Other times, like THE ABYSS and DONNIE DARKO, they make the movie too long or just pack the movie with useless information and scenes that rightly were left on the cutting room floor to begin with. The LORD OF THE RINGS "Extended Editions" had a lot of this. I prefer the Theatrical Cuts of these.

Saw The Reader on TV last night. A superb movie about a love affair between a boy of 16 and an ex concentration camp guard in her late 30s and what happens over time to them both. Highly recommended.

I adore Kate Winslet, and loved her in this role.

I watched the original version of '3:10 to Yuma' this morning - it was pretty good. I didn't realise that Elmore Leonard, of 'Get Shorty' fame, had written the original story back in the 1950s.

Just finished watching Antichrist. Beautiful, disturbing, stylish, confusing, shocking and magnificent. If David Lynch and Ingmar Bergman had contracted rabies while on LSD and decided to make a horror film together, it might have been something like this.

Yay. Someone else has seen it. I've been trying to get people to see this since last summer. I was all alone for a while.

It was amazing. The only other film by him I have seen Dancer in the Dark (and, to be honest, I didn't realise it was by him until yesterday - I saw it quite a while ago.) I am after Dogville next.
