I am endlessly impressed by the "truthers" who claim that nobody died that day, they're all off living well in a secret location on the taxpayer's dime. I can't imagine what their families think about that. "Daddy isn't dead, he's drinking beer on the beach at Cabo. He just wants you think he's dead because TPTB wanted a war over crude oil."

For me personally, getting a new Job, buying my first house (I always rented before), travel a lot, meeting up with like minded people.

So on the grand scheme of things it was all pretty bad, on the personal level it was pretty good.

You see, we had thirty years to get used to being terrified and we got to almost enjoying the excitement of big explosions.

I remember being at a client fixing a problem when I heard about a plane crashing into the WTC. So we discussed a little on how that is possible and I thought let's see if there are any pictures on CNN or something. I thought it was something like a small Piper airplane or a Cessna, but that soon changed when I saw the hole in the building. Then a while later we heard a second plane had hit, then we took real notice. I left the client early and went to my parents place to watch it on TV as they were the closest. One of my cousins worked in the WTC, but not in the towers. He got away unharmed.

We'd had Oklahoma City just a few years earlier, we weren't cherry. I pointed out several times that without Tim McVeigh people would probably be saying "Americans don't do that kind of thing."
