Annexation will never happen. Trump may not have thought it through, but you know Thune and Johnson have done the math and know that Canada as a state would politically be another California, having a huge impact on the Electoral College. Since Congress admits new states, that's not happening.

If there's one thing Canadians universally agree on it's that they hate being mistaken for Americans. I just can't see the entire nation being inspired, convinced, cajoled, or coerced into self-identifying as American.

Yeah, and admitting the provinces, and maybe the territories as states makes a whole lot more sense from an administrative point of view. A single state the size of the rest of the country doesn't sound workable.

well, from a US point of view, the whole of Canada has the population of a single state, plus many Merkins are ign'ant enough not to understand that Canada is a federation of its own.
