This leaves the for open for Trump and his terrorist supporters to try again. They might succeed next time.
Better to let Biden and HIS terrorist supporters do it. They use violence more efficiently.

Mitch has decided that he TOO is a constitutional scholar. The expresident cannot be impeached.

The supreme court has done similar reading between lines. They decided that with the 2nd Amendment, the founding fathers said "a well regulated militia" but they meant "anybody that wants a gun."
They DID mean anyone.

Of course, you could believe that it's better if only your rulers have guns, but I think it would be a better government, if it were forbidden to deny you the right to own weapons, before legislating about your life.
There was no intent to rule on individuals. This amendment, unlike most, dealt with the states. The Brits ruled and marched around all over the place and bossed the people and states. This amendment was for the purpose of the states keeping the peace, with the militias.

Guns in the hands of people? Of course. But that was strictly a state matter.

That's quite a popular interpretation. Most people who interpret it that way, use guns to defend themselves. Like ladder work though, they contract it out, to keep their hands clean.

The responsibility attached to firearms doesn't appeal to most folks. Big job.

More guns, fewer murders. Not what our member was trying to say just now, but that's the rationale behind the "use guns to defend themselves". It works - as long as facts are studiously ignored. I for one prefer to live in a country where almost nobody outside the police forces has ready access to a side arm, yet only has one fifth of the murder rate in the USA. As for government tyranny, even well regulated militias don't stand a chance. They do come in handy, though, if one wants to overthrow a democratically elected government.

How many Republican senators voted because they honestly thought that the charge of inciting insurrection could not be sustained, and how many voted because they feared the wrath of Trump supporters in their home states in terms of being nominated at the next election?

In saying that, I accept that it is possible that a neutral point of view (on fairly narrow legalistic grounds) could argue that Trump's words before the Capitol invasion cannot be construed as direct incitement. In the overall context of the invasion, he is at least morally responsible for the actions of his supporters, but a Scottish verdict of "not proven" would not be unreasonable in a legal sense...
