Re: The Coronavirus Thread
Yabbut that's just one Dutch person out of more than 17 million. Statistically not even a blip. Nothing to worry about.
Speaking of statistics, the Netherlands produces the very best. Accurate and trustworthy. So I used them to build a pretty chart. This one:
You see? Only 2051 positive test results since the first one three weeks ago.
It took 4 days for total cases to go from single to double digit territory, five days to reach triple digits and nine to go into four digits. I predict it will take at least eleven days, maybe twelve, for the total to exceed 10,000, by which time the best scientists in the world, meaning Dutch scientists of course, will have developed a vaccine and the best government in the world will have made it available to all 17 million of its citizens. The end of Covid-19 in the best country in the world. Byebye, Covid. All over, red rover.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread
You don't seem to understand that the numbers of deaths are "low" due to the strong measures taken. The strong measures you think are unnecessary due to being over reaction. You can't have it both ways. And the numbers in the UK are CONFIRMED cases. That is, they have been tested. Why you don't get simple facts is beyond me.Scot Dutchy wrote: ↑Wed Mar 18, 2020 6:29 pmFor a start Brian you make a few mighty presumptions. You accept without question the Chinese figures. You also accept that all deaths are due to the virus. I dont and never will. We will never know the truth. Just why would the Chinese leopard change its spots? The UK has no idea who lives in the country then how in the hell do they know who is sick? We have a pretty good idea who lives thanks to compulsory registration. Any data coming from the UK I take with a lorry load of salt and with American data 10 lorry's load of salt.
To say what is acceptable is rhetorical and I throw it back. Which figures do you accept and what would be your limits. Dont play their game.
We have 14 yes, one four, in a population of well over a half million. Let me weep. How many people died on the roads? But no there are no increase in speed controls (the biggest killer). We would save more people by shutting down the roads.
My major question is why?

https://www.dw.com/en/netherlands-reluc ... a-52796095The Netherlands has introduced one of the strictest speed limits in the world. Beginning on Monday, a speed limit of 100 kph (62 mph) applies on highways across the country during the day. Between 7:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., drivers can increase their speed up to 130 kph on designated sections of the road. Cyprus and Norway are the only other European nations to impose similarly low speed limits.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread
Most of our highways have 100 km/h limits, with some dual carriageway highways allowing 110 km/h. Parts of the Northern Territory have 130 km/h. So "one of the strictest speed limits in the world" probably refers to the rest of Europe...NineBerry wrote: ↑Wed Mar 18, 2020 11:03 pmEhm. Re: The Coronavirus Thread
My brother in law was not able to visit mom after all. Monday she had her last visitor. Since she is not "end of life," no visitors. Because she is essentially blind, my mother in law has insisted she won't use a cell phone. Also, refused a regular wired phone. So if she needs any supplies or clothing, she now has to grab a staff member and have them call my sister in law.

The speed reduction has nothing to do with safety. It is purely for the environment. For safety the speed should be reduced to 70 kph.NineBerry wrote: ↑Wed Mar 18, 2020 11:03 pmEhm. Speed Limits in the Netherlands have just been decreased two days agoScot Dutchy wrote: ↑Wed Mar 18, 2020 6:29 pm

Still why should we get our knickers in a twist over such low numbers? Which certain people take as gospel. Governments are notorious for massaging figures to suit their requirements. The UK unemployment figures are a good example. The way data is collected is never the same either and what the WHO is saying should really be questioned as it is the monkey of the American organ grinder.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread
An interesting article from people who deal in data:
A fiasco in the making? As the coronavirus pandemic takes hold, we are making decisions without reliable data
A fiasco in the making? As the coronavirus pandemic takes hold, we are making decisions without reliable data
The current coronavirus disease, Covid-19, has been called a once-in-a-century pandemic. But it may also be a once-in-a-century evidence fiasco.
At a time when everyone needs better information, from disease modelers and governments to people quarantined or just social distancing, we lack reliable evidence on how many people have been infected with SARS-CoV-2 or who continue to become infected. Better information is needed to guide decisions and actions of monumental significance and to monitor their impact.
Draconian countermeasures have been adopted in many countries. If the pandemic dissipates — either on its own or because of these measures — short-term extreme social distancing and lockdowns may be bearable. How long, though, should measures like these be continued if the pandemic churns across the globe unabated? How can policymakers tell if they are doing more good than harm?
Vaccines or affordable treatments take many months (or even years) to develop and test properly. Given such timelines, the consequences of long-term lockdowns are entirely unknown.
