The whole coronavirus thing is having a major, twofold effect on our response to the climate emergency. First, it makes large protest marches an untenable process, and secondly, it so dominates media discussion that all other issues are sidelined.

It's a shame governments can't get this mobilised when it comes to global warming.

I don't quite get why we react to this souped up common cold like it were the plague. Fully half of the infected develop only minor symptoms, if any at all, and it kllls less than the flu.

Meanwhile, our government, in its great wisdom is virtually shutting the country down, putting tens of thousands of business in jeopardy of not being able to open up again.

I think the kill count goes WAY up when services fall behind. Services like ventilators, or fuel delivery.

All we need to do is make the environmental and climate crisis as real as Covid-19 - which means holding the politicians feet to the fire and keeping the pressure on to make them live up to their own rhetoric.

Young people can be affected directly from the virus. But more importantly: If there are a lot of cases at the same time, the healthcare system will break and then you or your children could be affected if you have a health problem that can then not be treated effectively.

How is it legal for a congressman to advise the public to do exactly the opposite of what the CDC says we need to do in this situation?

I don't know, but I guess the limited immunity the Constitution gives him in the speech and debate clause might be a factor. I sure hope the voters in his district reward him by voting him out of office this fall.
