So it appears we're stuck stateside for the duration. eSwatini would let us in as we're permanent residents, but South Africa has closed borders. Ah well, at least we're on the boat, could be worse.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Look, I don't doubt that incorrect statements have been made on CNN. I'm not here to defend CNN. But it is outrageous to equate mistakes made by somewhat normal news organizations with the geyser of outright lies, disinformation and insanity coming from Fox News.Sean Hayden wrote: ↑Sun Mar 15, 2020 7:57 pmIt is an American thing, and it wasn't some Fox news type on CNN, it was one of their educational bits for school kids.
Lol. Yes they're Americans. They're a subset of the US population. What's your point? Am I not allowed to criticize one US political faction without criticizing the other? What is even happening here? This is one weird convo. Have you been watching Fox News lately or something, Sean? Give it to me straight, man.Sean Hayden wrote: ↑Sun Mar 15, 2020 7:57 pmIt's not just Trump and his fanbase. Besides, Trump and conservatives are Americans! Just what the absolute heck man?

Re: The Coronavirus Thread

I don't watch Fox. I would have no idea Trump misrepresented anything except for others telling me he had. But, I knew about the virus, how serious it is, and what we are expected to do. So, systems are functioning. This is relevant because I started this discussion, not to defend Trump, but to challenge what I think is a misrepresentation of the impact of some of our government's actions on the course of this virus.
Now, I'm also aware of other non-Trumpers who won't be paying any attention to him either, but who have probably been using exactly his language in describing the virus and the threat it poses, who didn't know --still don't know-- how serious it is, or what to do, or even that you can go to the CDC website for information.
Does that excuse Trump? Hell no. He's the last person I want running anything, much less an emergency when our lives could be on the line.
But it does help explain Trump, I think, and it may indicate the potential enormity of our problem in this country. --it's uuuge!

Re: The Coronavirus Thread
Speaking of their 'fact-checking the shit out of' stuff, is it true that Nick Sandman is still the highest paid white male at CNN?
Current events which support your pre-conceieved idea that Trump is exactly what CNN tells you he is.I'm pointing out the incompetence and idiocy of the Trump administration. Some people like to discuss current events. So what?

And he is exactly not what Foxnews makes him to be. Only them people believe it. Trump certainly seems to sniff out personal gain at every turn. It seems to be something automatic.

The whole coronavirus thing is having a major, twofold effect on our response to the climate emergency. First, it makes large protest marches an untenable process, and secondly, it so dominates media discussion that all other issues are sidelined.

On the plus side, China isn't polluting near as much as they used to do. If we take off and nuke them from orbit we won't have a climate crisis.

You know me, and my cardio proclivities. How about rigging rick-shaws to haul groceries, by hand, to elders who are fearful of going to the grocery stores?
Brand the 'rickshaws' to say 'XR' or something...

I guess someone didn't get the memo.

‘It’s a great time to go out’: California Republican Devin Nunes talks about life amid the coronavirus pandemic
‘If you’re healthy, you and your family, it’s a great time to just go out and go to a local restaurant, likely you can get in easily. ... [G]o to your local pub.’
That’s congressman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) on Fox News early Sunday giving a green light to the American people that flies in the face of what experts have been urging.
“Let’s not hurt the working people in this country that are relying on wages and tips to keep their small business going,” Nunes, the ranking member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, told Fox News host Maria Bartiromo. “So don’t run to the grocery store and buy, you know, $4,000 of food — go to your local pub.”

I don't quite get why we react to this souped up common cold like it were the plague. Fully half of the infected develop only minor symptoms, if any at all, and it kllls less than the flu.
Meanwhile, our government, in its great wisdom is virtually shutting the country down, putting tens of thousands of business in jeopardy of not being able to open up again.

It's killed 1400 people in the first two weeks in Italy alone. So, your classification is wrongSvartalf wrote: ↑Sun Mar 15, 2020 10:01 pmI don't quite get why we react to this souped up common cold like it were the plague. For me, I'm taking every meausure to NOT bring it to others. Same as flu, but a bit more focus on it this time.Svartalf wrote: ↑Sun Mar 15, 2020 10:01 pmI don't quite get why we react to this souped up common cold like it were the plague. Though I bought a bunch of rice, beans and lentils, in addition to my regular groceries.
Our grocery store was out of TP. I'm down to my last 100 rolls or so.
If supply chains really do get disrupted (rather than just the panic-buying we see currently) then I would suggest that feminine hygene products will get a new appreciation.

How is it legal for a congressman to advise the public to do exactly the opposite of what the CDC says we need to do in this situation?Joe wrote: ↑Sun Mar 15, 2020 9:55 pmI guess someone didn't get the memo.
