Except the amendment deals with militias. This was to keep federal troops OUT of states.

Carrying guns for everyday use was to be a state issue back then. States can permit or deny the guns for personal use. States have to allow militias.

No, your understanding of it is flawed. Not surprising since there is much effort to confuse the issue.
Tero wrote:This was to keep federal troops OUT of states.
No, it is to keep government tyranny at bay.

How would you suggest arming people against government tyranny?

'Back then' doesn't matter to me as much as the principle that the citizens should be allowed to defend themselves. Since free speech is so lightly defended, I expect that people will defend this one even more.

Plus, no legislation I have ever imagined can keep criminal killers from killing.

Killing is not a very practical way to make a living as a ciminal. But if the victims insist on carrying concealed weapons, now they have to kill them. The ”give me your money and gun” and letting the victim go is less reliable.

ah, incoherent nonsense! I love it!

It is why I have never been convinced by the lefts 'arguments' against the rights of citizens...they just don't make enough sense.

Hilarious that the same people chanting over and over about how their highest levels of government are corrupt, are asking that government to curtail their freedom to practice a gun hobby. Next thing, they will be begging the government to take away their right to speak, assemble and shit their own pants lol

Should I answer incoherently? Or try to make sense of your question?

I've not shot at anyone. See, I learned the truth about gun control, and I'll share it with you. Maybe you will even improve gun control in your area with this, though you are certainly welcome to babble :)

If you don't know how to handle guns properly, learn. I'll give you the short course:

Don't ever point it at anything you do not wish to destroy.

With that one instruction, you can improve gun control. If you want to control someone else's guns, I suggest that you will need further study.

If you can’t overthrow governments, why bother with the guns?

I'm all for gun control. If there's a gun around I want to be in control of it.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

All true. Assault rifles can lay down automatic fire. They are basically light machine guns. They are expensive and you have to jump through several hoops to get one that you need not jump through to get semi-automatics. Assault-style rifles are not capable of automatic fire, but in all other aspects they are the same. You can snap a large capacity ammo clip into it, attach a pistol grip between the muzzle and the trigger, and if you replace the standard stock with a bump stock it will fire automatically, albeit not with the accuracy of a genuine assault rifle. It's all legal, and requires no jumping through those additional hoops you need to get through on order to buy an actual assault rifle.

Assault style rifles are not favoured by hunters or sport shooters simply because they are not as suited for those pastimes as other models. They are very well suited for killing humans. This is why so many mass shootings are perpetrated with them. Cruz is not the only loon who used one,and he is not the only loon who bought his baby legally.

Cunt wrote:As I understand the second amendment, everyone is allowed to be armed with whatever is able to defend against government, so, if government has guns that are bigger and bigger, then the citizens can have the same.
My understanding is that when the US Constitution was being discussed the federal government was not meant to have a standing army at all. It was envisaged that in situations where a national military defence force was deemed necessary the federal government would draw its military resources from the various states' militias.

General George Washington soon found out the limitations of state militias. They were undisciplined, badly trained and and impossible to coordinate as a united army. It was reluctantly decided to form a standing federal army in order to defeat the British forces. This was meant to be a temporary, necessary evil. The intention was to dissolve the army once the revolution was one, and indeed, this is what happened by 1791 with the exception of two units. One regiment was retained to guard the western frontier, and one artillery battery the West Point Arsenal.

In this context the Second Amendment made some sense, but the situation did not last long. Before long the federal standing army began growing again for one reason or another. Today, even well regulated militias (or national guards) have a snowflake's chance in hell of baulking a tyrannical US government, and I don't know if many of the former are all that well regulated. Nevertheless some plebs remain in some delusional fantasy-land with delusions of one day reprising the role of the three-percenters, three-minute-men, perchance of Paul Revere himself.

It's apparently quite easy and cheap to convert an AR-15 to automatic fire.

That would be the bump-stock. Approx. $400, and not an optimal solution for killing people compared to, say, an M-16 or an AK47.

No, theres some other simple modification you can do. If Seth was here he'd explain it.
