A man would never have his appearance or sexuality mocked or questioned....it's only women whose looks are criticized and mocked, and only women whose sexuality is publicly mocked in politics and in our sexist, patriarchal culture.

Trump must be a woman!

No, that's not basically it - people don't trust Hillary Clinton, and they see her as corrupt and a liar, and she is. She is also bought and paid for by Wall Street - she is the candidate of big banks and big finance.

People have no problem with a politician, like a General or a leader of a corporation, being an arsehole. An arsehole who gets the job done and speaks plainly and more or less genuinely is preferable to a non-arsehole who panders to whatever audience he or she is talking to, promises a bunch of crap in the usual manner (with the wink that everyone knows it's just talk), and is in the pockets of moneyed interests who just got done fleecing the American public for bailouts....

When Trump speaks plainly, people listen. He identifies a problem - China/Mexico trade and the loss of American industry and jobs - and then he suggests solutions together with an open admonition that he negotiates and is flexible (but the goal remains the same, preserving American business and jobs and cutting a better deal on international trade) - people understand what he's saying. They get it -- and they see him as generally competent to walk in the rooms he's going to walk into.

Try to view Trump and what he sense outside of the "lens" of the Trump-mocking. Listen to what he actually says, not the commentary ABOUT what he says. Listen to what he says and not what some people think he "really means." He makes some bit of sense, and he is speaking to people in a manner that they are not accustomed to from politicians.

The reason Rubio, for example, took a nosedive and got destroyed is because Rubio sounded like a kid who went to politician school. His speeches sounded canned and practiced. Rehearsed in front of a mirror. He had buzzwords, tag-lines, and talking points, all polished with the positive on the front end, negative at the back end, balancing to zero tactic of a "traditional politician." People are hungry for someone who speaks plainly, and addresses practical issues in a pragmatic, problem-solving fashion. That's what they see in Trump.

What a load of tosh. How is building a wall to keep out Mexicans pragmatic?

We already understand that people like Trump because he speaks to them in their own language; and talks any old rubbish off the top of his head. That doesn't make him a good politician or president. There's nothing wrong with prepared speeches by people who have really thought about issues, examined them and got their resources correct instead of spouting out any ol', counter-factual nonsense, laced with offensive stereotyping, then back-tracking to saying he was 'joking' or it was 'just an opinion' any time he gets called out.

How isn't it? it's consistent with the wall already in existence over part of the border. There already is a wall. What he's talking about is completing it, and improving it, and manner of finance.

There is, for example, a double fence "wall" through parts of Arizona which has slowed border crossings there. In recent years, the wall in the San Isidro/Tijuana area has been raised and improved. Barrier fences exist through Lukeville Arizona.

Here is a pic of some illegal immigrants climbing over the current wall -- Image

Here are some who thought the photographer was law enforcement, and they're dashing back to Mexico -- Image

There is about 350 miles of fencing in key areas. Some portions of the border are basically impassible, or extremely hazardous to cross (it's like 1900 miles --

The current wall pokes out into the ocean a ways, to try to keep the illegal immigrants from just swimming or boating around it.

Indeed, he speaks to them plainly and without condescension. He does not pretend to be among the "betters."
Animavore wrote: and talks any old rubbish off the top of his head.
He does? Well, at least he doesn't pre-calculate his rubbish, like Hillary Clinton. People like to be talked to off the top of one's head - extemporaneously - rather than in canned, calculated political horseshit.
Animavore wrote: That doesn't make him a good politician or president.
They don't want a "good politician." And, we don't have any other candidates who have shown that they merit being President, have we? Saying he's not a good politician is a compliment.
Animavore wrote: There's nothing wrong with prepared speeches by people who have really thought about issues,
Of course not. But, what we typically get are prepared, contrived, mendacious double-talk designed to pander to whatever audience is present.
Animavore wrote: examined them and got their resources correct instead of spouting out any ol', counter-factual nonsense, laced with offensive stereotyping, then back-tracking to saying he was 'joking' or it was 'just an opinion' any time he gets called out.
Well, when you find me a candidate who speaks truthfully, as well as has prepared speeches after having "really thought about the issues" and has practical, real-world solutions to problems, without pandering, well, then I'll look at him or her. Right now, we have Hillary Clinton, a lying, corrupt, sack of shit who will say anything to anyone anytime, if she thinks it will get her elected, and who is bought and paid for by Wall Street.

Hillary's numbers among women are almost as bad as Trump's.

Still more appropriate than Trump. She's still a Democrat and will still continue with Democratic policy. A vote for Trump is a vote for Republican and all the Christian, anti-women, anti-science, they've been trying to push into Congress of late.

Only until they have no choice but to vote one or the other.

Traditional, yes. Appropriate? LOL.

Which in many ways is a big problem.

Not in the least - that's why the Establishment republicans are against him and that's why the conservative Republicans set up "hashtag nevertrump" -- he's not that kind of Republican. He isn't going to defund planned parenthood, or worry about making abortion illegal. He isn't going to worry about social issues much at all. He is into business, trade and economics, law enforcement and national defense - in other words, the main jobs of the President of the United States.

Well, yes. Far more so.

Bullshit. he has said he is against Planned Parenthood and that there should be punishment for women who get abortions.

Forty Two wrote:He isn't going to worry about social issues much at all.
Which is a major cause for concern.

And doesn't know fuck all about the last two as far as I can make out, and the first two are doubtable too given his failed ventures and bankruptcies.

But both Dems and Repubs hate him, so he must be good. There's no way he could be a dumb cunt and hated by the establishment.

You don't need to be good to be hated by the establishment, just to rock the establishment, and a rich, dumb cunt can do that.
