How isn't it? it's consistent with the wall already in existence over part of the border. There already is a wall. What he's talking about is completing it, and improving it, and manner of finance.
There is, for example, a double fence "wall" through parts of Arizona which has slowed border crossings there. In recent years, the wall in the San Isidro/Tijuana area has been raised and improved. Barrier fences exist through Lukeville Arizona.
Here is a pic of some illegal immigrants climbing over the current wall --
Here are some who thought the photographer was law enforcement, and they're dashing back to Mexico --
There is about 350 miles of fencing in key areas. Some portions of the border are basically impassible, or extremely hazardous to cross (it's like 1900 miles --
The current wall pokes out into the ocean a ways, to try to keep the illegal immigrants from just swimming or boating around it.

We already understand that people like Trump because he speaks to them in their own language;
Indeed, he speaks to them plainly and without condescension. He does not pretend to be among the "betters."

He does? Well, at least he doesn't pre-calculate his rubbish, like Hillary Clinton. People like to be talked to off the top of one's head - extemporaneously - rather than in canned, calculated political horseshit.

That doesn't make him a good politician or president.
They don't want a "good politician." And, we don't have any other candidates who have shown that they merit being President, have we? Saying he's not a good politician is a compliment.

There's nothing wrong with prepared speeches by people who have really thought about issues,
Of course not. But, what we typically get are prepared, contrived, mendacious double-talk designed to pander to whatever audience is present.

Well, when you find me a candidate who speaks truthfully, as well as has prepared speeches after having "really thought about the issues" and has practical, real-world solutions to problems, without pandering, well, then I'll look at him or her. Right now, we have Hillary Clinton, a lying, corrupt, sack of shit who will say anything to anyone anytime, if she thinks it will get her elected, and who is bought and paid for by Wall Street.
