The only trouble is that some of the lunatic fringe will call themselves feminist, and imply that you have to accept all their whacko ideas to be a "true feminist", in effect bolstering Forty Two and the Dodo man...

When a variety of people call themselves feminist, you will have a variety of positions involved. What a rational person would conclude is that the majority of people self-describing as feminists do not have the extremist views of the tail end of the bell curve...

Well I think the nutso feminists are still feminists. They are just an extreme implementation of the idea. The same as any ideology. The real question is as you say about the bell curve. Coit and Dodo focus on the tail, while we focus (if at all) on the main body.

This is statistically incorrect, as far as I can tell. those identifying as feminists are typically less than 50%, and in the US the last Pew Research poll I saw said 18% overall (men and women combined). I was looking for some Germany-specific stats, but haven't yet found them.

Well, as usual, US citizens are special. Very special.

A new poll by global research company Ipsos finds that just over half (53%--very much 17%/36% somewhat) of those in 15 developed countries self-identify as a “feminist” – someone who advocates and supports equal opportunities for women.

In fact, while women are not an unexpected majority (57%-- 19% very much/38% somewhat) who may self-identify as a feminist, half of men (48% – 14% very much/34% somewhat) in these countries also identify this way.
