Re: Runaway pulsar has astronomers scratching their heads
Science progresses by chance discoveries not rational argument. Evidence determines theorem not the other way around. Conjectures no matter how absurd should all be considered equal until the evidence is in.

"Pulsars were first discovered because of their characteristic radio signals, so this is extremely difficult to explain through any theories we have at the moment."
It's hardly surprising that they're off the air at the moment, with all that going on.
They might just have their version of BBC World News, once a week.

Super strong magnetic fields 'focusing' the radiation...obviously.

It's moving too fast.........it'd be torn apart.Rum wrote:Super strong magnetic fields 'focusing' the radiation...obviously.

Space is not empty...and it's near a gas cloud.Rum wrote:By?

'Empty' is a relative term. In interstellar space, the density is about one atom per cubic meter. If you are in, say, the Orion nebula, the density is higher: about 10 atoms per cubic centi-meter or about 10^7 atoms per cubic meter.

Even this solar system has a bow wave and we're hardly moving at all....you can see by the tail that the fucker is losing bits of itself.Rum wrote:'Empty' is a relative term. Moving relative to what? And why does it matter?A report in the journal Astronomy and Astrophysics, says the pulsar called IGR J1104-6103, also known as the Lighthouse nebula, is moving at more than eight million kilometres per hour and generating the longest jets in the galaxy.

Presumably relative to the average galaxy vector. Why does it matter?!? It's SHOCKING and DEFIES THE LAWS OF PHYSICS!!1!

Probably hard to sell copy that reads, "Scientists discover something else that obeys the laws of physics."Animavore wrote:Obviously not.shoddy science journalism wrote:A newly discovered fast-moving pulsar streaking across the galaxy with enormous x-ray jets, defies the laws of physics,

Proves there's no interstellar speed cop. Einstein is dead and so is the speed of light.
