Seems the average climate denialist expects the ice to melt in as linear and predictable a way as an ice-cube on a pub table.

I have to admit, that record sea-ice in the Antarctic is definitely non-linear. It's about as non-linear as it gets.

Of course, if it were at record LOWS, alarmists would be pointing out that THAT was just melting being non-linear. Like they did last year, for the Arctic???

Of course, nobody was measuring the Arctic sea-ice in the medieval warm period, but I should think that the trend was much the same.
In Britain, it was extremely warm for a while, and I can't see much chance that the Arctic was still ice-bound. That would have affected our climate, for sure. What would climate scientists have made of that clear melting trend?

But then, along came the little ice age, with Ice Fairs being held on the Thames in London, on top of several feet of frozen Thames. If we'd had climate scientists then, they would have been turning somersaults.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — November was a hot month for planet Earth.

Government scientists reported Tuesday that last month set a heat record. They say it was the warmest November on record, across Earth, since record-keeping began in 1880.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says average global temperature, for water and land surfaces combined, was 56.6 degrees (13.7 Celsius). That's 1.4 degrees (0.78 degrees Celsius) above the 20th century average.

It was the 37th consecutive November with above-average temperatures. The last below-average November was in 1976.

It was also the 345th straight month with above-average temperatures. That's almost 29 years.

Among the November hot spots: much of Eurasia, Central America and the Indian Ocean. In Russia, it was the warmest November on record. But parts of North America were cooler than average.

Below-average temperatures were present for a majority of the contiguous U.S. east of the Rockies. Above-average temperatures were present for the Southwest, as well as Florida. No state had November temperatures ranking among the ten warmest or coolest.

We travelled all over the west and north west in November with lovely temperatures.

That said ...the Arctic Dipole will show excursions of cold air further south than normal.....but that's unlikely to impact a total month.

Climate fluctuated in the past?? No way! That definitely means that all the carbon dioxide humans have put in the atmosphere in the last hundred-plus years can't be affecting the current climate.

It's interesting that you mention the last 100-plus years.
If you take a look at this graph, the total tonnage of carbon over time is represented by the area under the black line, for a given period.
If you look at the area under the 100 years, from 1850 to 1950, it's roughly equal to the area under the last sixteen years.

So we've produced a hundred years worth of carbon, in the last sixteen years. And that's on top of an already significantly raised level in the atmosphere.
But the atmospheric temperature hasn't moved.

Well, yes. But the point is that in the last 16 years the line hasn't moved as predicted. Thus, verified reality is in conflict with hysterical prognostications drawn from simplistic and erroneous computer models. You can say "the trend line is going up" all you like, but the beginning of a change in that trend line is as important a consideration as the PAST history that produced the trend line in the first place. Ever hear that old saw pandered in micro-print by your investment advisor about your stocks and mutual funds: "Past performance is not an indicator of future performance"?

You see, the thing is that all of the verified, historic warming that has been measured still has not come anywhere near fluctuating outside of the global maximums and minimums over time. How much time? Depends on which hysterical argument you want to pander to...Global Warming Panic or Ice Age Panic. The farther back you go in time the less horrific the recent deviations from "normal" become. And over geological periods the upward trend ALWAYS ends at some point and begins to swing the other way, just like it appears to be doing right now. It's not just "not going up as fast as before" it's radically departed from the predictions upon which trillions of dollars of economy-crushing regulations and actions are based. Crashing the economy of the entire globe by panicking about "global warming" is not just imprudent, it's idiotic given the fact that all the IPCC hysteria has as its core purpose nothing whatever to do with global warming and everything to do with power, control and redistribution of wealth.

It's almost 70f here today, a new "record," but little more than a week ago it was record below-zero records being set with thousands of record lows being set all across the US. None of which were predicted by any of the climate models. If they can't tell me exactly what the temperature is going to be next week or next month, much less next year, why would I believe they can tell me what it's going to be 20 or 50 or a hundred years from now?

Fucking take a Thorazine or three and relax. Earth abides. Adapt or die.
