It was the direct reason why Seth was telling him to fuck off, or whatever he said. The moderating system here is totally ad hoc. I don't really care, as it's so lax that it's not really a problem. But when it starts becoming a bit more pervasive, then it does become a problem, IMO.
As for me specifically, I'm not around much right now. I'm working a summer program that takes up most of my posting time. I didn't see anything at first simply because I don't get to read as many of the threads/posts as usual. IIRC, staff were discussing both sides of the exchange. I would like things to be dealt with more promptly, too, but the fact is that we're all volunteers with daily lives to deal with. If a discussion is going on that no mod has been very active in, or if the exchange happens while engaged mods are working, sleeping, etc, we do indeed have to depend on somone pushing the report button. And even if we are discussing both sides of such an exchange, that doesn't necessarily mean that both sides will be dealt with simultaneously. Sometimes it takes longer to get a consensus on one side or the other for various reasons.
But I do appreciate the concern about favoritism. I don't think this case is an example of it, though.
