I heard that you can't get a US visa if you have ever had in-patient care for any mental health issue. I don't know how true that is but the person that told me was refused on those grounds. That was back in the 80s though, so things could have changed.

The only mental disorders that would make someone ineligible for admission to the US would be those that are likely to recur and likely to be harmful or dangerous to people or property. So, diagnosed pedophiles, psychopaths and such would fit in that category -- pyromaniacs - kleptomaniacs - etc., but neurotics, adjustment disorders, standard depression or anxiety, that's unlikely to present an issue as far as admission.

Thinking about it, she may have just been ineligible for the visa waiver (although that wasn't how she phrased it.) She was in for a week or so for depression after a nervous breakdown which included driving her car into a river.

That's because the forms used for visa waiver are minimal and perfunctory, and they do no investigation. To determine if someone's diagnosed condition is a danger requires a background check.

I think it all depends what they are actually blogging. Unless they are actually urging people to blow up mosques and kill muslims, how critical of Islam they are, even if it is expressed virulently, should not be a bar to entering the UK, IMO...

They're dicks, but if we used that to bar people entering the country, our airports would be detentions centre for our own citizens.

I do find it slightly amusing that they're being kept from attending an EDL rally by rules, applied fairly, that have previously kept muslim preachers out of the country, and that the EDL generally want more of as long as it only targets people they don't like.

I would be interested to see examples of Muslims who were, in fact, kept out of the UK for similar reasons.
