The case against porn

Post by NineBerry » Mon Jun 17, 2013 7:15 pm

Look what's happening in the UK.

First they came to register your guns, then they came to take your guns, then after you were defenceless they came to take your porn.

But I will not allow that. If they want to take my porn, they have to take it from my sticky dead hands.

Not without reason does the American constitution say: A well erected and ejaculating militia being necessary for the defence of a free state, the people have the right to bare arms and breasts and twats and cocks.

If you read the article you will have to opt in rather than opt out. I'm for it myself. I will of course be opting in!

They should make it like a switch -- if you want your internetz filtered you can buy it with a filter. If you want your internetz unflitered; get the unfiltered kind. I wonder if that's possible.

I could see workplaces that buy internet services from an ISP would like to be able to buy the limited kind. But, then when you're buying directly from an ISP provider, shouldn't you be able to get the unfiltered variety?

Well, opting in will only work for a few hours. And your other household members will be informed of your opting in activity. So not only will your internet provider know when and how often you are a naughty boy, your wife / husband / parents will also know.

Imagine how this is for an 18 year old still living with their parents.

Additionally who is going to make the list of what is pornography and what isn't? How can you be certain Wikileaks won't be on that list very soon?

The crux is that the opt-in the govt wants will opt-itself-out again the next day, and you'll have to opt-in again.

However...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-22934600
UK ISPs have rejected calls by David Cameron's adviser on preventing the sexualisation of childhood to impose parental filters for adult content as a default setting.
So it's still up in the air.

The UK disgusts me.

There's too much porn. It's a distraction. About time they called time on the smut. :coffee:

As an American, and a Texan to boot, I'm not troubled by thought police.

I'm all for the opt-in system. In fact, I think they should extend it to all sorts of things.

Opt-in for political propeganda. Make it illegal to aim political opinions at the public, unless they have chosen it.
And opt-in for religious shit. Same thing, nobody is allowed to push it, unless you opt for it.
And commercials.
And nationalist propeganda, which in the UK takes the form of cosy little "news" items about how nice and popular and much-loved the royal family are.

Opt-in is great. It's not a restriction of freedom. It's freedom from stuff you didn't ask for.

Go for it !
While there is a market for shit, there will be assholes to supply it.
