Every family should be stock-piling cans of baked beans...

And toilet paper, obviously...
Nurse, where the fuck's my cardigan?
And my gin!

The government will then impose a bean tax, and ban toilet paper.

Whatever you do, its going to be messy.

That and the whole concept of money which frankly bakes my noodle; I mean most of it is virtual- moving around computer systems as numbers on a screen. Maybe one day there will be a realisation that the world would work better without money but I believe that will never be considered- where there's money there's power.
The fiction of Neal Stephenson is apropos here. (Not to mention great fun to read.) Especially Cryptonomicon and parts of Quicksilver and The System of the World.
Thanks Orpheus, I need to get my teeth into something

Yeah, it's not a banned video, it's an internet marketing sales pitch that's been around for a while now. That doesn't mean we aren't fucked of course, but there's really no particular reason to believe it.

From the video - "the hardest hit will be savers and investors" - well bloody good! It's precisely the sort of speculative profiteering that likes of moneyweek promote that cause this sort of problem in the first place.

And get to the end of the video: Subscribe to moneyweek and we'll tell you what to do to stay rich when the government wants to give your money to the poor!

I am interested to discover whether or not you have a savings account or a pension at all?

Any kind of provision for your future, or any kind of insurance of any description, other than car insurance?

I have a small chunk of cash still saved up after my last job, mainly because I'm able to live off very little, but I certainly don't have a hundred grand to build an investment portfolio, like the people that that video is targeting. Why?
[Disclaimer - if this is comes across like I think I know what I'm talking about, I want to make it clear that I don't. I'm just trying to get my thoughts down]

Because when people make blanket statements to suggest that savings accounts and investors should be raided it often means that they are blind to facts such as:

1. Their own savings acct can be affected
2. Pension funds are one of the largest investors, and raise on investors hit pension funds very hard
3. Insurance funds are another large investoye, and these funds have to be invested in a specific manner to try to limit volatility exposure as much as possible. It is the policyholders that are hit by insurance company failures.

Just because someone had 100k in a bank account does not necessarily mean that they are rich. It could be a pension lump sum (to last for many years), someone's life savings, money saved to pay a debt (I.e. an endowment or interest only mortgage).

If someone has already paid all taxes due on money, and instead of spending it, they saved it for a rainy day, why is it right to take that money?

Hey, everyone should plan to be poor when they retire so the government can support them. That way those evil "rich" people who work hard and save will get what they deserve!

Slight problem. The rich people move their money offshore, and there is no money left in the government.
