Don't be silly if you leave it full we will prosecute you for endangering burglars lives (someone did sue the council for making it to easy to break into , they broke they back diving into it when it was closed and last I herd they at least partially won)

Dexter always confused me, isnt having forensics linked to the police a clash of interests (obviously not in the kill everyone and cover it up sort of way). Forensics duty is to the courts (and the 'truth') not to police especially ones they go out drinking/murdering with

I don't think you are allowed swimming pools in the UK, as the government can't protect the population from drowning.

I love hearing Seth wax on about how well-prepared he is to hold back the proletarian cannibal hordes after some apocalypse happens. I can just feel the enlightenment and humanity wash over me.

Thinking about this, it occurred to me that I don't really want to hunker down where I live right now, if there is some sort of massive civil unrest. I don't have a very good defensive position in my suburban home, with wife and kid. We don't even have a fence around the house, and my locks and home security system works great now, but if the shit really hits the fan, it'll all be useless. Even a gun or two would be only useful to get me outta Dodge, so to speak.

So, my plan right now is to have enough food and fuel to get me somewhere else. Only, I can't think of a good place to go in that instance.

I think my best option is to try to organize the local community, so that the local community as a whole can band together to help each other peacefully survive.

Well thought out. The problem with fleeing is that if you do it too soon, you waste your resources, but if you do it too late, you might not get out at all.

Community-based defense is always a good idea. Take the Vietnamese parts of Watts in LA during the Rodney King riots. While the blacks were burning down their own communities and shops, the Vietnamese forted-up with shotguns and pistols and shot (at) any rioters who came close and ignored their warnings to stay away. I don't think they killed anybody, but they very effectively defended their homes and businesses BECAUSE they ALREADY had the arms needed to do so...If they'd waited till the riots started it would have been too late because California has a 15 day waiting period.

But you should also have an E & E plan as well. Start looking for a good place to go and a viable way to get there that doesn't involve interstates or major highways, and that you can get to on foot if necessary. Then pack up "bug-out bags" for everybody in the family and PRACTICE with them on a day hike. Never put more in a bug-out bag than the wearer can carry for a distance AT A DEAD RUN. In other words, take the absolute minimum survival gear you can, learn how to forage and decontaminate water, and don't forget to take some cash, gold, silver, ammunition or other forms of currency you can use to trade.

Not sure how you reach that conclusion. A theme that comes through in this thread is cooperation in the face of adversity versus the stand alone every man for himself individualistic approach.

No, not at all. It's "rational analysis and conclusions that the government is simply INCAPABLE of providing for mass numbers of people dislocated by civil strife, natural disaster or war.

No nation on earth is adequately prepared for any of the above, as the tsunami in Phuket...and every other natural disaster in human history has proven.

I'm not arguing that going it alone, or in small, select groups is the best thing, or even a good thing, I'm saying that it's what IS going to happen, and that it's prudent to acknowledge history and reality and prepare for that sort of thing ahead of time.
