Because they are 1000's of miles away and cost a fortune to defend (if there really is oil there its a different matter) . If I could go back in time and make sure we never discovered the place in the first place I would.

Same for Northern Ireland , England, Wales (and Scotland to a lesser extent) are one of the most non-religious countries in the world, do you seriously think we want all those religious issues over there. We have a responsibility to protect 'law abiding' citizens even if they are religious and bigotted. As soon as the Catholics become a majority there and vote to join Ireland most of us will be waving them off

I would offer the natives in the Falkland Islands a million pounds each ( 2 billion in total) to vote to become part of Argentina. It would be highly cost effective and I bet the islanders would go for it however I suspect the British public wouldnt be too impressed

I doubt its that easy to do in secret not that their would be any reason. I also suspect without Argentinan cooperation exploiting would be pretty impossible anyway

The simplest thing for the Argentineans to do would be to move their citizens back to the mainland and then refuse to trade with the island. Without Argentina trading with it, I doubt it could survive (I say this knowing nothing about the actual economy of the Falklands).

It's an appalling organ, and surely none of us can have forgotten "Gotcha!", a gloating and despicable headline over the story of the violent deaths of several hundred people. Its front page of today comes across to me as similarly jingoistic. The politicians - for whom, as I've posted elsewhere, we pay more than enough - have to get round the table, sort the matter out, and make sure there is no loss of life through stupid nineteenth-century hegemonistic attitudes. If wanting strenuous efforts to be made for such loss of life to be avoided makes me an ethnic cleanser, then I'm an ethnic cleanser.

Characterising Northern Ireland as a religious issue is to seriously misunderstand it.
