The weapon used by Anders Breivik to shoot 69 people was a Ruger Mini-14, a rifle which I also happen to own. It's never been banned by name or by feature in any assault weapons ban in the US, and was and still is legal to own in Norway as well. Of course, the media didn't shout up and down about the firearm used to kill 69 people in this case, because it wasn't a scary-looking black gun that is similar to a model used by the military. However, its functionality is essentially the same, as I can personally attest to from the time I've spent with mine at the range, and as clearly evidenced by its efficiency in Breivik's hands.



The one on top is labeled by some as an "assault weapon", the one on the bottom was used by Anders Breivik to kill 69 people. But please, go ahead and tell me more about how "assault weapons" are extra special dangerous because of the scary black paint and pistol grip.

Incidentally, I agreed that the mini-14 with a high-capacity magazine should be banned as well. High cap mags have to go. Minimum 5 year federal prison sentence for anyone caught in possession of one, 10 years for possession of two, electric chair for possession of three or more.

They're not "exactly the same", or else they'd both be called AR-15's or Mini-14's and not one or the other. However, they will both perform the same function, delivering .223/5.56 downrange at a similar rate of fire. I promise, the AR-15 won't make anyone deader than the Mini-14 just because it's black and has a pistol grip.
