I'll bet no carrots called in to complain ..

Although it may look like a forum, this site is actually a crowd-sourced science project modelling the slow but inexorable heat death of the universe.

There's a mare somewhere that wants to bear your mule...laklak wrote:Weird how the mind works, eh? Give me any sort of linear logic puzzle I'll rip most people's tits off, I'm good at it, that's why I was a good programmer. But give me an anagram, man, I'm fucked. Mrs. Lak just looks at them and writes down the answer. I start a brute force algorithm in my head, substituting one letter at a time. Forget Scrabble, I once actually started a game with "moo". But I kick ass at Trivial Pursuit.Făkünamę wrote:Sudoku? Easy peazy. I solve the ultra-hard ones in less than 2 minutes.. but I cannot win a game of connect four to save my life.
Oh, and I'm hung like a donkey. That has to count for something.

I think in general a high IQ does tend to mean more rationality etc. but perhaps out of those with a high IQ, those that believe they should join a club because of it, tend to be the least rational of the bunch.Blind groper wrote:Yeah. Mine is only 130, which makes me a "moron".Făkünamę wrote:That's just what people with IQs less than 140 say to make themselves feel better.
There was an interesting survey, though, done a few years ago, on Canadian Mensa Club members. Believe it or not, over 40% believe in astrology, and over 50% believe that many UFO's are extraterrestrial space craft. Is that rational?
[Disclaimer - if this is comes across like I think I know what I'm talking about, I want to make it clear that I don't. I'm just trying to get my thoughts down]

They don't actually believe this stuff. Just say they do to get lesser smarts rags. Looks like it works too. All Machiavellian scum above 140.PsychoSerenity wrote:I think in general a high IQ does tend to mean more rationality etc. but perhaps out of those with a high IQ, those that believe they should join a club because of it, tend to be the least rational of the bunch.Blind groper wrote:Yeah. I'm with Groucho on this, I wouldn't join a club that would have me as a member.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

I'm skeptical of IQ being any kind of useful gauge of intelligence in the same way I think being able to ice skate tells us anything about your weight.

The evidence is it measures something but who needs to brag about a big one? usually indicates issues and they never fully fit in that way.Audley Strange wrote:I'm skeptical of IQ being any kind of useful gauge of intelligence in the same way I think being able to ice skate tells us anything about your weight.
