The long exposure makes the aurora brighter in the photos than it appeared in the sky, however it was clearly visible.

And then the camera battery died, just as the curl to the right folded around on itself, making a superb 'curtain' up into the heavens! By the time I got home it was starting to fade, however it was pulsing with waves of light that were rising quickly up into the sky across its whole length - spectacular - and not something I've witnessed before.
Activity is still quite high, and it's past midnight across the US just now, so if you're in a highish latitude and still awake, go and have a look!
