Think orthography and work back to the English sounds... :hehe:

There are different levels of formality in Korean. Google translate has a hard time translating the informal version, as it's full of contractions and slang.

Try:

뭐예요? 지금도 한국에 살고 있어요? 이것을 번역하세요.

Google translate sucks balls. It says, "What's going on? I'm still living in South Korea? This translation."

One problem is that subject nouns are normall omitted when the context is clear who or what you're talking about. It should read: What? You're still living in Korea? Translate this.

You just typed in the English and got the Korean translation. :hehe:

Seriously though, I get it. Wonder how words like ya'll and 'em would translate?!

I translated 'I love all ya'll to Korean and back again and got 'I ya'll love'.

 Hang on. Let me try that...

OK, going the other way, we get:

왜? 당신은 아직도 한국에 사는거야? 이 번역 할 수 있습니다.

Which really translates into: Why? You're still living in Korea? (It got that part right! It even used informal style, but it mixed formal and informal together, which is a no-no.) You (or I...subject omitted) can translate this.

Seriously though, I get it. Wonder how words like ya'll and 'em would translate?!
Y'all = 모두들. Which is correct! Holy shit!

'em = 그들을. Which is also correct! :D

Ah. In Korean sentence structure, the verb always comes last. It's doing better than I thought.

That's probably why it looks so incorrect to me!

Maybe we should end this derail on tatt's song thread. :hehe:

Yeah, but we're trying to get away from that tradition. I could split it off if you're interested in learning more Korean. ;)

Almost the entirety of music, like any art form is fucking awful. A cacophony of dirges and poorly expressed caterwauled femotional howlings. It's not getting any better or worse. That which panders to mass market by necessity is thin gruel.

OK, so you have mixed feelings about it, I guess.
