And we may be lucky enough to have this idiot as a vice president if Romney get elected.Robert_S wrote:Louisiana Republican: When I Voted for State Funds to go to Religious Schools, I Didn’t Mean Muslim Ones
In Louisiana, Republican Governor Bobby Jindal pushed for a voucher program that would allow state funds to be used to pay for religious schools. It’s unconstitutional, it’s a way to use taxpayer money to fund someone’s faith, and it was a bad idea to begin with.
But it passed.
Now, one of the state legislators, Rep. Valarie Hodges (R-Watson), just made a shocking discovery, though: Christianity isn’t the only religion!

People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.
But those letters are not silent.
They're just waiting their turn.

I can picture all the other religions' leaders sitting back and smiling while the fundies campaigned for this.

Funny story. When I was in the class the NROTC had for Naval History* I was asked by the instructor what the name of that religion was. I said it, pronouncing it exactly like I had been taught. He stopped for a moment and then quietly asked "And how do you spell that, please?"

As far as religions go, I suppose it's best of all of them...catholicism, buddism, confucianism, and Victor Hugoism.Gawdzilla Sama wrote:I loved it!maiforpeace wrote:Yes, the Vietnamese concocted this very strange religion.

We are. That's why the vouchers are usable for the Islamic schools as well as the Christian schools. They'd be usable for atheist schools as well.JimC wrote:I thought that American conservatives were supposed to be shit hot about the constitution?

Isn't the whole idea of supporting any religion via public funds against the spirit of your constitution?Warren Dew wrote:We are. What the constitution actually says is:JimC wrote:Isn't the whole idea of supporting any religion via public funds against the spirit of your constitution?Warren Dew wrote:We are. "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof"
I think the law is very much in accord with both the spirit and the letter of the constitution. If anything, funding only secular nonreligious schools could be interpreted as violating the spirit of the second clause, as that restricts free exercise of religion.
