The Swedish Miracle...Tax = Happiness

Post by Clinton Huxley » Wed Jun 27, 2012 7:55 am

The Swedish Miracle.

There was a report on Radio 4 about the "Swedish Miracle" (no, it's not some kind of performance-enhancing contraption). In the 80s, Sweden was rocked by an economic crisis and this led to the implementation of various new policies. Sweden remains a high tax economy. If you chop down some trees on your property to get a better view of the lake, the Govt will
tax you more, because you have a nice view. Very invasive but no-one seems to mind much. These policies have led to Sweden now having the most competitive economy in Europe and they are running a budget surplus. Generous welfare provisions have been maintained and Sweden regularly comes near the top of the best places to live. Other Govts in Europe have beaten a path to the Swedes door to see how they have done it, including the current British one.

More Swedishness, that's the ticket!

I couldn't agree more!

As long as they tax that bastard over the street, and not me!

I'm guessing that's because ABBA had all the money. :ask:

Sweden is also the world leader in moving toward a carbon neutral economy and have committed to be carbon neutral by 2050.

Fancy that.....

They and Norway and have had a carbon tax since the 90s. Really damaged them eh. :coffee:

In a relatively small country you get to say how to spend the money. Vote.

That would be AB Bank, then (AB is Swedish for inc.)

Same thing happens here. Better view = higher property value = higher real estate taxes.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.
