Re: Venezuelan Prez Election 2012 - opinion and what have yo
In 1996, Hugo Chavez attempted to assassinate the then Venezuelan Presidnet.
His water and electricity policies have resulted in many towns going through weeks without water and many hours without electricity.
Special treatment for "Chavistas."
Chavez has threatened other candidates with violence, such as Rosales in 2007. Chavez threatened the guy's family. Then he chased Rosales out of the country on trumped up "corruption" charges.
Good riddance, if Chavez dies or doesn't get elected.

Surely that's all imperialist propaganda. Chavez is an honorable Man of the People.

I wish you Limeys would get back in the game. Maybe you could send some redcoats and beefeaters over to quell those Amazon savages.

We could resurrect Thomas Cochrane - he'd sort them outCoito ergo sum wrote:I wish you Limeys would get back in the game. Maybe you could send some redcoats and beefeaters over to quell those Amazon savages.

Ah, yes, an Earl of Dundonald. Just what we need. We should be up to the 15th Earl by now, ay? Maybe the current one will suffice?

Heck, I totally guessed, but we really are up to the 15th Earl of Dundonald....http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earl_of_Dundonald
LOL -- you guys have "Earls".....
Apparently, the current Earl is getting a bit long in the tooth, but his heir apparent, Archibald Iain Thomas Blair Cochrane, the next Lord Cochrane, Earl of Dundonald, is only about 22 or 23. So, he may be ready to cut his teeth in battle against the heathen.

Yup one of the few leaders in the world i actually admire.

Meanwhile your government tortures people, has assassination programs, invades and occupies numerous countries, bombs civilians on a regular basis, treats your own poor people like garbage etc. And the above are your criticisms of ChavezCoito ergo sum »

When Mr.Chavez starts invading poor countries, starts setting up torture prisons, and begins bombing campaigns come back and talk to me.
Our struggle is not against actual corrupt individuals, but against those in power in general, against their authority, against the global order and the ideological mystification which sustains it.

Re: Venezuelan Prez Election 2012 - opinion and what have yo
You are of the impression that Venezuelan police and military do not "torture" people? Do you even have a clue what the jails and prisons in Venezuela are like? To even suggest that the US waterboarding one or a few terrorists who had knowledge of Al Qaeta's plans with the typical practice of a country like Venezuela, well, it ignores the reality of what goes on there.sandinista wrote:

I mean, for crying out loud -- Venezuela, and other Latin American countries, torture the fuck out of people, and have been doing it for a long, long time, as a matter of course. To compare that to a few waterboardings is really laughable.
Obama does? Well, yes you are correct, he assassinated the Al Qaeta American citizen in Yemen, as I recall.sandinista wrote: has assassination programs,
Numerous? Let's look at the last 25 years. Kuwait, check (UN operation to expel Iraqi forces), Panama (brief operation to seize Noriega), Afghanistan (obvious reasons), and Iraq. That's the "numerous?" Or, are you including Kosovo and Bosnia as invasions?sandinista wrote:

Nonsense. The US does no purposefully bomb civilians.sandinista wrote:
bombs civilians on a regular basis,
If you think they are treated like garbage here, then you must REALLY think poorly of Chavez's government. The poor there live in truly shitty conditions. The poor in Venezuela make the poor in the US look like the top 1%. Most people in Venezuela are poor, and would be considered absolutely destitute in the US.sandinista wrote: treats your own poor people like garbage etc.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/cou ... 229345.stmYet most Venezuelans live in poverty, many of them in shanty towns, some of which sprawl over the hillsides around the capital, Caracas.
Unemployment is high and, according to official figures, around 60% of households are poor.
Here is how around half the population of Venezuela lives:inflation, running at 25% by the end of 2009. In January 2010, the government devalued the bolivar in an attempt to boost oil revenues and simulate domestic production.

You want to talk about "treating the poor like shit" -- look at that massive shanty town. Millions upon millions of people in Venezuela live like that -- in tin roof shit holes. And, you have the unmitigated gall to say that the US treats its poor like shit?
Give the 50-60% of the population of Venezuela the chance to be poor somewhere -- where do you think they would choose? Stay in Venezuela or come to the US? Give the bottom 50-60% of the US population the option to live like poor Venezuelans -- how many do you think would do it?
Yeah - he's a thug. He rigs elections, squelches freedom of the press, and seizes private property, on top of everything else I listed. He's tin pot wannabe dictator that oppresses his people. You make the silly argument that poor people are better off in Venezuela than in the US? Joke and half, that.sandinista wrote: And the above are your criticisms of Chavez![]()

so, you choose links from a Columbian newspaper and a few anti chavez Venezuelan newspapers, as for the video, who knows where that is from. Some random video on a gore site. Good work, did you even read those links?

On that note, it is correct to point out that torture in Latin America has been horrendous, interesting side note is that many of the torturers throughout Latin America were trained in theier methods by americans at the school of the americas. What is laughable is to state that the only torture the US has done is waterboarding.I mean, for crying out loud -- Venezuela, and other Latin American countries, torture the fuck out of people, and have been doing it for a long, long time, as a matter of course. You have proof of this?Nonsense. The US does no purposefully bomb civilians.
precisely the situation Chavez has been trying to fix. To think this can be done in a few decades is ridiculous, precisely why I am hoping he gets re-elected.Here is how around half the population of Venezuela lives:
Every president the US has had had been a thug. Elections are rigged in the US worse than anywhere. squelches freedom of the press? What a load of shit that is. Seizes private property...good. I never once said that poor people are better off in Venezuela than in the US. Grab that out of your ass as well I see.Yeah - he's a thug. So, to summarise, Chavez is a thug but we should support him over other candidates because the US is naughty?

There is an element of hypocrisy in the UK's position however. The majority of the Hong Kong population had no wish to be part of China in 1997. They weren't given a choice. The situations are not dissimilar.
