Or, they are used to cover up the taste of spoiled foods... :?

My mom makes a three bean salad that's full of vinegar, and really yummy.

I adore bean salad...but bean stew with vinegar sounds odd.

Hm. When we have black bean soup, we usually have it with a slice of lemon and a dollop of sherry. Which kinda seems like the same idea. ?
Out of the people that ever were, almost all of them are dead.
There are way more dead people, and you're all gonna die
and then you're gonna be dead for way longer than you're alive.
Like that's mostly what you're ever gonna be.
You're just dead people that didn't die yet.

I'll have to try that sometimes...never had it that way.

My advice? Leave her alone and let her get on with it until or unless she is losing weight and if that happens then post again.

Good advice. As long as she's maintaining proportional weight (as she grows) and is not losing weight, and she's taking vitamin and mineral supplements, there's a lot of leeway. It's better than being obese at that age, but family should watch carefully for symptoms of anorexia, which can begin at that age.

I agree that attempting to bully a child into eating is very often more harmful than being tolerant of short-lived dietary irregularities.

Making sure that what food she eats is high in nutritional value and calories, and is palatable to her will help. This means catering to her tastes a bit more than some parents would like, but the fact is that children's taste buds and appetites are constantly changing as they develop and what tastes good to them today might revolt them tomorrow.

I went through a phase where I would eat absolutely nothing but baloney and American cheese sandwiches with Miracle Whip, everything else tasted like shit to me. That lasted about six months.

Never did develop a taste for lima beans, cauliflower, broccoli or pickles.

the vinegar adds that yummy taste that just makes you want more. It was a bean stew I've tried to make many times in my life, but it never came out the same as my moms.

I also loved the way she made stuffed green peppers. I can make a good batch of them myself.

What I absolutely hated was her leek stew. EEEuuuuyyyuk. It was always some kind of stew, always. "limited funds". On weekends we'd get fried chicken and mashed potatoes and salad, or pork chops.

Yeah, she isn't one for snaking in between meals - the parents are fairly strict on that - and she's definately the kind of kid that would probably reach for the carrot rather than the Mars bar.

I think there is something subliminal going on in her head - what that is, I dunno.

Her mother is prone to worry and can get quite 'panicky' sometimes - she has asked if her anxiety is inheritable, genetically.
I think not - anxiety is something learned, isn't it? The grandmother (my niece's mother's mother...) is also a worrier, which is why my niece's mother asked if it was hereditory. Please feel free to read that bit again lol.

I think this will pass in it's own good time.
My niece, I am told, doesn't seem too preoccupied with the situation, and she remains a happy-go-lucky type child. I agree with the general concensus and would advise the parents to 'quietly observe'.

Many thanks you lot :td:

When I buy a more stable PC I shall probably drop in more...this thing I'm using now is well past it's best...I think my phone is more powerful than this LMAO

Attention seeking isn't always accompanied by shrieking, biting, shitting the bed antics. If she is a bright child (possibly tending toward the precocious?), she might find this an interesting 'experiment', especially if she is aware of her mother's tendency to fret. This doesn't mean she is mean, naughty or cruel. She is just exploring. My kids (10 and just 8) do wierd shit sometimes.

They would have to be bloody big beans, to be any good for me. Even with other stuff alongside them.

I love beans. Red kidney beans especially. I could just eat them out of the can. Sauced with vinegar and some fresh hot bread. :food: :food: :food:
