Re: Resurrection Real, According to Some Scientists
There aren't nearly enough quantums cited in this theory for my liking. More quantums damn you

At least I'm housebroken.
Re: Resurrection Real, According to Some Scientists
It would be nice to be so good at maths that you could tinker something together for any strange little fantasy you care to come up with. Getting all your numbers lined up doesn't help a flawed basic premise though.

A lot of ifs there. If sentient life evolves and remains in all possible universes then his numbers workif life evolves in all of the many universes in a quantum cosmology, and if life continues to exist in all of these universes, then all of these universes, which include all possible histories among them, will approach the Omega Point. At the instant the Omega Point is reached, life will have gained control of all matter and forces not only in a single universe, but in all universes whose existence is logically possible; life will have spread into all spatial regions in all universes which could logically exist, and will have stored an infinite amount of information, including all bits of knowledge which it is logically possible to know. And this is the end.

Outside the ordered universe is that amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the center of all infinity—the boundless daemon sultan Azathoth, whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time and space amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes.

1. Assume a 'brain' exists with the capacity to contain every fact about every universe. Let us call the total facts U.
2. That brain is a part of those universes.
3. U therefore includes the total contents of the brain.
4. But 1 states that the brain contains U. This is a contradiction, since no set can both contain and be contained by another, distinct set.

That makes relativity and quantum stuff cranky too.James Redford wrote:
Actually, you have that in reverse. Cranks are people who violate the laws of physics with their theories, such as introducing new, experimentally-unconfirmed physics which violate the laws of physics. String theory falls under this category, since it has no experimental support whatsoever and it violates the known laws of physics.
It all violates known laws, till it's accepted.
I said he's thought of as a bit cranky. That doesn't make him a crank, but it makes it harder to convince people to have a serious look at what you're doing.
While there is a market for shit, there will be assholes to supply it.

I've never heard of the intrepid Frank J. Tipler before, and my immediate reaction was to find a suitable face-palm. So far no luck. For a claim such as this, nothing less than an truly industrial-strength 5-year plan-like face-palm will suffice.

I am really glad ole Jimmy here freshened up his thread. I completely missed it the first time around, but it's proven to be an entertaining read.
I especially enjoyed the part about the trailer-park crack-whore and her apparently overly-taxed ladybits. Good stuff.

Why won't you people just leave Tipler alone. All he wants is a Templeton prize

Re: Resurrection Real, According to Some Scientists
Jesus came back to life that one time, but he ain't gonna do it again because I aimed for the head, just like Pa taught me to.
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

The Social Science Research Network (SSRN), founded by two Professors of.....Business Administration. If anyone would know about Quantum Resurrections and the like, it'd be them

Well, if they are profs of Business Administrations, they have massive grounding in Economics, accountancy, and similar stuff which does make them flimflam experts supreme.
