Guinan was the sexiest of all the female cast? I don't grok that at all. She wasn't anywhere close to sexier than Tasha Yar, Dr. Crusher, or Deanna Troix, among others. And, I think I speak for most men when I say that. But, it's not surprising we would see things differently in this regard. You're a woman. I'm a man. We tend to reflect our culture in that regard. So, I wouldn't even try to argue with you about the fact that looks are not all that important to you. In fact, that's precisely what I've been saying, isn't it? I mean, you referred to the attractiveness of the "egghead kind of passion for excellence."
That is PRECISELY what I said. And, your acknowledgement of it lends support to my argument. You're a woman, and you find a person who may not be physically attractive still very sexy because of their intelligence and passion for excellence. Yes! Where you go wrong is equating your experience to the male experience -- you won't get this honest report from the guys you talk to in a mixed "coed" group. They'll tell you what they know you want to hear - that intelligence is where it is at and they'll take a hairy-toed geek over a model any day of the week -- but, put them in a room like that show "The Bachelor" and give them a choice, and they'll take the physically hot chick 9 times out of 10. Bank on it. Grok it, baby!
(And, yes, I do know where the word "grok" comes from). But, you're right - to each their own. And, any young guys following along this conversation - heed well the words of Ronja -- it doesn't matter what you look like much, what's more important is that you have something interesting that you're passionate and good at. That's who the girls want, including the hot ones.
