Because the Falklands have been a British territory long before the national inception of the Argentine state. The islands are sovereign, and they're entitled to self-determination. They are British, and they want to stay that way. It was 'colonised' by the British, yes, but it's been almost two centuries. There are no 'indigenous' Falk-landers, and no Argentinian has any claim to the land let alone the Argentine government.

Hong Kong was a barren rock when it was ceded to the UK. By your logic it should have stayed with us When it was 'handed back' it looked like this.

The Falklands never belonged to Argentina, and therefore it cannot be "handed BACK" Argentina. It can only be handed "over" to Argentina.

Because many people believe as he does, and many people's ignorance of history get skewed by this kind of nonsense.

The idea that Argentina has some prior right to the Falkland Islands is ludicrous in the extreme. Argentina is the aggressor here. In the 1980s, it was a military dictatorship which invaded a British territory, and yet there were plenty of Sean Penns running around trumpeting how the Brits were in the wrong and colonialist, etc.

The Argentinians are trying to colonize -- annex -- the Falklands. They have no right to do so.

It would be one thing if the people that live there were interested in leaving the UK and joining up with Argentina. But, that is not the case.

Well, it was always supposed to be like a development lease... of course, somebody crapped his/her pants when they decided to recognize PRC as the legitimate heir to the Chinese Empire that had signed that lease, and entitled to regain control of the place.

Argentina has a much claim over Hong Kong as it does over the Falkland Islands.

We gave HK back to the Chinese because there were a billion of 'em. and most of them had guns. and they would have come over the border (a short walk).
