I think you may have misread Seth's last post - the one you quoted?

Not completely - I just quoted the wrong part - it should have been " Since I can't directly tell MrJonno what I think of him" - apart from that, I stand by it all. Thanks for pointing out the mistake.

I'm late to the party. I have three issues with what he did:

1) Use open source software! It's cheaper!

2) Sell the laptop! It was worth money!

3) Don't let your emotions through during things like this. He should have done it steady... clam... that's much more effective. Anger can be quelled, but dispassionate justice is a bitch that knows no remorse.

Doesn't mean I can't express my displeasure with MrJonno or the Mods. Since I can't directly tell MrJonno what I think of him, I have to express it more circumspectly, through a proxy.
Of course you can express your displeasure. But there are ways and there are ways. And some of those ways (I'm speaking generally here, not about you in particular) are inappropriate, or against forum rules.

Oh, I read a bit more carefully, and realized-- you think the staff is here to take whatever abuse you feel you can't dish out to a non-staff member?

Is this what you meant by proxy? Because I have things to say about that, but I want to make sure I understand what you're getting at here.

We have to be rather careful here
because all we have is a video of less
than nine minutes so no one is capable
of extrapolating from that a complete and
total character profile of both father and non
existent daughter. It is obvious that this is just
the tip of a very large iceberg [ as such an extreme
re action would not have happened in isolation to any
thing else ] All we know is that they do not get on and as
this suggests not for a long time either : but you are basing
your judgements on what he is saying / doing : you have zero
idea if his re action is over the top or not as we do not have here
any independent verification of the history between them : maybe he
is bang out of order and over re acts but equally may be she has pushed
him to the absolute limit of his patience : all we can ascertain is that it is
not a healthy relationship and has not been for a long time : that aside we have
no knowledge on who is more to blame so should reserve judgement : the only thing
is that he should not have damaged the computer as it was his not hers : that is obviously
an indication of how angry he must have been but as to whether that anger is justified we need
to reserve judgement until we have more information : so please refrain people from snap decisions
A MIND IS LIKE A PARACHUTE : IT DOES NOT WORK UNLESS IT IS OPEN

So you insult the messenger?

Couldn't you tell, by the wording of the reminder, that the staff were also critical of Mr Jonno's post?

Can you possibly be unaware, given your long history here, that staff policy leaves us no option but to issue a reminder to Gallstones?

Finally, "I can't express my displeasure with MrJonno or the Mods"? Really? This is bollocks. You can express your displeasure with anything and everything here. What you can't do is do so in a way that includes personal insults and attacks.
Did I insult the messenger? I think not. I think I told her to fuck off. Telling someone to fuck off is not, as I understand it, a personal attack here. At least it hasn't been. It's friendly advice to, well, fuck off. It's an expression of endearment around here, as I see it, given how often it's used.

And yes, I know you "had" to give Gallstones a reminder. Now see if you can figure out the rest.

Nope, that's not what I mean at all. Keep trying.

Seth, would you include telling someone in a non-joking way to fuck off as playing nice?

sigworthy - really made me stop to think

MrJonno, I'm genuinely curious. Why do you associate gun ownership with all the negative connotations that you regularly post?
