No, I'm merely pointing out that you deliberately and maliciously misquoted me by manufacturing words I did not write and then passed them off as a direct quote.Thumpalumpacus wrote:Apparently you're so slow ridicule needs to be pointed out?Seth wrote:Liar. That's a reprehensible and disgusting thing to do by any civilized standard, and in professional journalism, academia, or business you would be fired for it. And, you might be sued for libel as well.
You may consider it ridicule, I consider it a malicious personal attack so I called you what you are: a liar. The fact that you cannot formulate your own arguments and rebuttals, and must resort to revising other people's words also indicates a serious lack of morals and intellectual ability.
Now THAT'S ridicule.

Newsflash: this is an Internet discussion forum.Seth wrote: (some huffing and puffing deleted) ... in professional journalism, academia, or business you would be fired for it. And, you might be sued for libel as well. ...

And a very small Internet forum it is, too. I doubt there is a lawyer born yet who would give a rodent's hind quarters about one word changed in one quote in one post, on a forum with around 120 active members, tucked away in some obscure corner of the web.
"The internet is made of people. People matter. This includes you. Stop trying to sell everything about yourself to everyone. Don’t just hammer away and repeat and talk at people—talk TO people. It’s organic. Make stuff for the internet that matters to you, even if it seems stupid. Do it because it’s good and feels important. Put up more cat pictures. Make more songs. Show your doodles. Give things away and take things that are free." - Maureen J

Since there is the original post directly before and Seth's response directly below and since all of that is on the same page, I don't see it as a major issue.

What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

It would be a pretty weak case of libel. Libel isn't just misquoting. You'd have to prove that a person published a defamatory statement, which was false when made, which caused you injury and damages. A mere misquote isn't enough. And, if the evidence were to show that a reasonable person wouldn't have taken it seriously, or that it wouldn't effect a reasonable person's opinion of you, then you'd have no case.Seth wrote:No, I'm merely pointing out that you deliberately and maliciously misquoted me by manufacturing words I did not write and then passed them off as a direct quote.Thumpalumpacus wrote:Apparently you're so slow ridicule needs to be pointed out?Seth wrote:Liar. You haven't suffered any injury significant enough to warrant pursuing it, even assuming you could prove liability.

Ian, the first link requires a subscription. Is there any substance behind that claim?

Re: US intelligence agencies lying about Iran?
It's not out of the realm of possibility. But Saudi Arabia said that they'd buy warheads in short order after Iran goes nuclear, with their own indiginous program to follow. I don't know if anyone, even Pakistan, is going to be especially eager to sell to them.MiM wrote:Ian, the first link requires a subscription. Is there any substance behind that claim?

Of course. I was merely pointing out that falsely attributing something to someone can be libel.Coito ergo sum wrote:
