Allow Illegal Aliens to Vote?

Just a simple multiple choice test on the way into the polls regarding the candidates and their policies would enhance the electoral process. You can take it as many times as you want but can't vote until you pass it

or something like it. You get to vote after you prove you are informed on the candidates, the initiatives and the process. Legals only.

Who would write the questions?

University Poli Sci professors.

Because they're independent and unbiased? The ones from poli sci at Oral Roberts University, or the ones from UC Berkeley?

I'm not in principle against allowing illegals to vote -- they likely have as big a stake in economic and political decisions than many in the community. I don't see any way that you could prevent illegals being used in voting abuses, probably at the behest of the major parties without some form of registration.

But your thoughts gave me an idea. Instead of voting for candidates, the parties should come up with a list of issues, which would be neutrally reworded by an election committee, and any candidate would have to register their choices on those questions. At election, instead of a slate of candidates, you would mark your choices on these issues, and the candidate closest to your choices gets your vote. People would know in advance exactly what their candidates stand for, and there would be no denying what position they took after the election. ('It will never work. They'll kill him dead in one day!")

Of course they have a stake. That isn't the point. They don't deserve a say, because they shouldn't be here in the first place. Absent extenuating circumstances, the moral, legal, ethical, and proper thing to do would be to leave.

We do have registration. If you aren't registered, you can't vote. And, it's voter fraud to register illegal aliens. They're supposed to prove they are entitled to vote.

The Democrats would just push a law through that provides federal funds to people to pay their federal taxes. Problem solved.

Only those citizens who own real property and pay property taxes should be permitted to vote.

Anyone who takes any government subsidy AT ALL (yes, including farmers and Social Security retirees) should be prohibited from voting, since there's an inherent bias towards supporting the taxing authority that provides the subsidy.

I also rather favor Heinlein's notion that a term of government service, in the military or other approved function, confers citizenship on young people, but that the default is that if you're on the dole, you're a prole, and you don't get a voice in how the nation is run.
