Should we return to a largely agrarian culture?

Should we return to a largely agrarian culture? Can humans give up their fancy toys and hot fads in order to keep the planet from going through something akin to menopause?

Sure, as long as I can keep the Jag.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Two questions two different answers. So probably and certainly not until they have no option otherwise.

And we'd hear that seven billion times over.

:hehe: That's actually a line from the story. Aliens come to Earth and find great shiny city with wonderful toys, abandoned while the humans live in small villages with little or no technology. When the aliens ask how something works, the humans say, "I don't remember." The aliens make the mistake of thinking simple means harmless.

Maybe if you like starvation, as every largely agrarian culture I can think of is a few bad harvests away from a massive famine.
A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.

True, and the population level would drop like a rock. But we can't sustain this lifestyle, so what other choice to we have?

Drastic population decrease.

So, kill six billion or so? We'd just start breeding again.

Certainly, but if we bumped off a few billion we could more easily control the future birth rate through mandatory vasectomies after a sperm deposit which is then stored for future possible use.

We can sustain our lifestyle, they can not.
