Cache of guns stolen from LAPD

A cache of Los Angeles Police Department submachine guns and handguns was stolen last week from a secured building used by the department's SWAT unit, raising fears that the weapons, which police had altered to fire only blanks, could be converted back to lethal use, police officials confirmed.

The weapons, which include 21 MP-5 submachine guns and 12 large caliber handguns, were moved Wednesday night to a multistory building at 14th and San Pedro streets downtown and stored in a locked box on the building's first floor, said LAPD Deputy Chief Michael Downing.

So a few ambitious criminals made off with more than 20 fully automatic police-issue submachine guns, which they can convert back to fire live rounds with approximately $40 worth of parts each. Only the police should have guns, eh? And if we outlaw guns and only the police and military have them, criminals will never, ever get their hands on them!

I think you are a little behind the news with that one, and also confused since republicans are mostly anti any kind of gun regulations. Jerry Brown however, the current (and liberal) governor actually has always taken a more sensible approach to gun ownership and preferred to target criminals and uphold individuals rights to own/carry

Actually, I was referring to CA being one of the more repressive states when it comes to guns, in spite of a string of GOP governors (24years out of the last 32, and counting the Reagan tenure would skew the stats more toward the red) (and I assume republican dominated legislature), and making a poor joke.

Definitely beginning to think if a policeman carries a gun he is no longer really policing just an instrument of state violence something the army can do a lot better.

I think have around 5% of British police licensed to carry and I don't see the point to be honest, if shooting people is required get the military to do it
