Just saw Scott Pilgrim Vs The World. It was probably one of the most random movies I've ever seen. Things just happened out of no where, things didn't happen when you thought something was going to happen. There were parts that were amusing, others with a quirky charm, and still some more which were cringe-worthy or grating.
But for all it's flashy lights, non-stop references to gaming, anime and contemporary pop culture, it's fast cut scenes and tangential sequences the film was, ultimately, a bore.
The only bit that made me sit up and think that the film was about to pick up was when Chris Evans came into it. He literally tore up the scenery. The whole 5-10 minutes he was there I just laughed. But after he was gone, and this just under half-way through it, it went back to being boring again.
I'm not sure it's a good sign if the two most memorable things from a movie are Chris Evans and the opening Universal Pictures ... thingy (is there a name for that, when the logo comes up accompanied by music?).
