I don't know if anyone saw Teresa May's right-wing drama session about the Human Rights Act and her lies about the court judgment allowing someone to stay in the UK because of a cat. Even the Justice Secretary Ken Clarke (whose job was split off from the Home Secretary's anyway by the last government), even he is saying May was talking rubbish. He'll probably lose his job over it. I'm no fan of his either, but I do think it's a shame that a grandee with some intellectual ability has been brought down over a spat with an extremist self-serving liar.

Ken Clarke needs his enemy fix once and again. The story wasn't totally accurate from what I can gather & the cat was mentioned at the end of the immigration case in question. There was some grain of truth, and really the decision for so many cases is that they stay when they should go back to their own bleeding country. The UK is massively over-populated and the when you consider sustainiblity issues, how the population would fair in a crisis which cut off food imports etc...there needs to come a point when we train our own young people rather than relying on cheap(or even expensive) labor from abroad.

The guy was applying for leave to remain on the grounds that he'd been living with his partner for two years. He was required to provide evidence, which he did. The cat was a very small part of the whole picture, one which he could have left off the application and got the same result. Theresa May must be fucking stupid to have used it as an example, but it seems it hasn't really backfired on her because the media haven't bothered presenting the facts fairly.

He was in the country illegally by over staying his visa. But when he gets caught, that is when the whining starts.

Thankfully, being convicted or cautioned for shoplifting doesn't deny someone their human rights. The guy was an illegal immigrant, but had the right to apply to stay based on our immigration laws. His application was approved because it met the criteria... and the cat had nothing to do with it.
