The UN were already killing more Iraqi people than the merkins managed during the war.

Arabs wouldn't do much because they feared that the Shia majority would come to dominate, which is why so many foreign Sunni fighters jumped into the fray and prolong and exacerbate the war.

The invasion may not have been the best solution, nor a good decision but it doesn't follow from that, that the invasion lacked reasonable pretexts and any moral 'high ground'.
No, the invasion lacked reasonable pretexts and any moral 'high ground' for reasons other than that it may not have been the best solution nor a good decision.
Like I said, the UN were killing more people with sanctions, so rather than ask a pointless ("compartmentalised" in your world) moral question about the war, you have to ask if sanctions should have continued with a greater number of deaths.

But then you have to understand the reasons for the sanctions. :ask:

That statement is so full of false accusations and sarcasm that it is virtually incomprehensible. I suppose you might be trying to say that US military action in Iraq was justified because UN sanctions were killing people. Have I got that right? It would help if you just stated your opinions, your way of saying things seems very convoluted.

I do not understand what your point is HomerJay. As you are not willing to explain, could anyone else explain it to me please?

Well now I really haven't the foggiest idea what your argument is.

I'll finish my response to you by saying that the UN sanctions were as much a crime against humanity as the US invasion of Iraq. If you have an argument against that position then please state it directly. Otherwise, many thanks for your contributions to this discussion and have a nice evening.

The interesting thing is that Iraq seems to have a chance to become a reasonably functioning state over the next few years after all foreign troops are gone, whereas Afghanistan likely does not. If that is the case, then the invasion of Iraq, whether justified at the time or not, may have achieved something worthwhile, if only inadvertently. This, of course, assumes that the Iraqis could not have got rid of Saddam via their own version of the Arab Spring. Personally, I suspect not, but no one could be sure either way.
